AUTOMATIC ADVERTISING DISPLAY BOOK Applicationfiled noveinberfas. 1929. Seria1 "l To.409,9( )3.
My invention relates to automatic advertising'display books, and the like.
"An important object of the invention is to provide a device of this character which will 5 command the instant attention of an observer when the display book is placed into opened 7 position before such an observer, or prospective purchaser; V p o Other features and advantages of the in- 120 vention will appear clearly from the detailed description given hereinafter, and theaccom- Figure 2 is a sectional view of the device taken on the lines 22 of Figure 1,'looking' in the direction of the arrows.
Figure 3 is a diagrammatic plan view showing a modification of'the device.
Referring now more particularly to the drawings, this invention comprises, essentially at least, a pair of pages represented by reference numerals 10 and-11. These pages 10 and 11 may be made out of any suitable or desirable material, such as cardboard, etc., which are hinged together sideby side by a binding 12, all of which is of conventional design or construction. Upon each of these pages 10 and 11 there are mounted a series of movable advertising display surfaces 13, likewise of suitable material, which are permanently secured by a portion thereof at its bases 14L to the pages 10 and 11. At the juncture of the base, a lengthwise fold 16 is given to each of the display surfaces 13, as more especially illustrated in Figures 2 and 3. At the upper portion of the pages 10 and 11, strings 17 and 18 vof suflicient strength are anchored at points 19 and 20, which are relatively close to the outer border of said pages. Each of these strings 17 and 18 then connect each ofthe movable advertising display sur- 59 faces '13 with each other, such as at fixed as they near the lowermost display surfaces,
Figure 4 is a side view of a fragmentary I points '15, being approximately from the top" edge of the display surface and the lengthwise fold 16. Now, these strings [17 and 18 gradually tend to approach each other indicated by 13 andfrom each of theselowermost display surfaces 13*, said strings actually cross each other and are fastened or secured upon the opposite pages at points 21 a'nd22x y r r in Figure 8, an additional c'olumnof series of advertising display surfaces 13 are secured together by strings 17 and l8 which ar-eapproximately parallel fora distance to strings 17 and 18 respectively. However, 2 these strings 17 and18, and 17 and 18 are all secured together at points 21 and 22 and from these points continue along and cross tothe opposite pages where they are afiiXed thereto V V at 23 and 2&1, in the same manner asdescribed in the preferred "form. 1 V V i ode of operation The automaticadvertisingdisplaybook is i normally carried in closedposition, as shown in Figure 4:,whennotin use. When it is desired 'to display the advertising matter or educational matter that maybe imprinted or attached to the display surfaces, the book is merely opened up, and v due to such action, the display surfaces are caused to assume an upright, or nearly upright position, due to the string tightening up between'the leaves and the fixed ends 21 and 22 upon the bottom of the opposite pages, inasmuch that the distance therebetween naturally is increased. The exact or desired angle that the display surfaces are to assume with its base, when the book is fully opened, can loo satisfactorily adjusted as may be desired, bymerely p changing the length of string between its secured ends 19 andQO and the display surfaces.
W hen the book is closed, the reverse a eration takes place, the 'stringsbecome slack between itsfixed points, so that the display surfaces double over at the fold, thereby facilitating the complete closure of the book;
It will be 'obviousthatl' 'have devised a f In the modification of the invention shown 'novel and useful arrangement of an adverti'sing display, which embodies the features 'of advantages enumerated as desirable, in
the statement of the invention and the above description, and while I have, in the present instance, shown and described a preferred embodiment thereof, and one modification of theinvention, it is to be understood that the sameis susceptible of further modifications, such as, the number of columns of the V series of advertising display surfaces, whichv may be increased to any desired number,
" likewise the number of rows'of' the series of advertising display surfaces may varyas may be desired, as well as the number of pairs of pages that form the book, all of which will not depart from the spirit or scope of the invention, or sacrifice any of its advantages.- i g f .Having thus described myinventiomwhat I cl m as newand desire to secure by Letters Patent is:.", M i r n 1.
