UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
ROBERT SHEANE, OF LISTOWELL, ONTARIO, CANADA.
IMPROVEMENT IN MACHINES FOR MOUNTING PHOTOGRAPHS- Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 1 83,598, dated October 24, 1876; application filed April 10, 1876. v
To all whom t't may concern:
Be it known that I, ROBERT SHEANE, of Listowell, Perth county, Province of Ontario, Canada, have invented a new and Improved Machine for Mounting Photographs, of which the following is a specification:
My invention consists of a box of two parts hinged together so as to open and close together with uniform action, in the lower part of which is a glass plate resting on a rubber or other elastic cushion, and in the upper part is a follower with an adjusting-screw.
The cards on which the photographs are to be mounted are put in the upper part, and pressed down one after another on the pasted pictures lying back upon the glass, which are thus pasted to and mounted on the cards, by closing down part B of the machine on part A, the operation being quickly performed, and the pictures being correctly and squarely attached.
Figure 1 is a longitudinal section of my improved picture-mounting machine; and Fig. 2 is a transverse section of the bottom, and elevation of the top raised up.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
A is the lower part, and B the upper part, of the machine, which are hinged together at C, so as to open and close like a box. The part A has a recess, D, of the size of thecards L, on which the pictures M are to be mounted,
or a little larger, and a plate, E, of glass or other suitable material for spreading on the wet pictures, is placed in it on a cushion, F, of rubber or other suitable material. The part B has an opening, G, through it of the size of the cards, and a follower, H, is fitted in the opening, and provided with an adjustingscrew, 1. J represents cavities in the sides of the parts, to allow the cards and the plate E to be lifted out readily, when required.
After the pictures are washed they are laid face downward on the plate E, and pasted; the card is brought down on it quickly with some force, which sticks the picture to the card. The picture is then removed and another put in, and so on. As the pack of cards diminishes the follower is setforward in the frame by the screw.
The cards are fastened in buttons K, or other devices.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patcut- The two parts A B, hinged at O, the former having card-recess D, plate E, cushion F, and cavities J J, while the latter is provided with opening G and follower H, all substantially as shown and described.
ROBERT SHEANE.
