Description
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
EZRA COLEMAN, OF VIRGINIA CITY, NEVADA.
IMPROVEMENT INN LATHS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 183,538, dated October 24, 11-576 application filed September 25, 187 6.
To all whom it may concern; I
Be it known that I, EZRA COLEMAN, of Virginia City, county of Storey, and State of Nevada, have invented a new and improved tached from the lathing and falls when subjected to any sudden jar or to the effect of moisture, and this is because there is nothing to hold it to the laths except natural adhesion, which cannot always be depended on.
My improved lath A is constructed with a groove on each edge, as shown at B, Fig. 2, either V-shapedor circular in form, as may be. deemed best. When the plaster is put on the laths of this construction a portion of it is forced into this groove, and, when dry, of V course this presents great resistance to the plaster beingdetached. The making of these grooves in the edges of the laths is a very easy matter, and can be readily done by two little saws, revolving one above and one below the lath, making the groove at the same time that the lath is being sawed. Laths of this construction can be nailed on as rapidly as the common ones, as of course it makes no diference which side of the lath faces outward.
Having described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
A plastering-lath provided with grooves on each edge, either V-shaped or circular in form, cut lengthwise of the lath, substantially as described, or its equivalent.
EZRA COLEMAN.
