NITED STATES PATENT FEICE,
PETER RASMUSSEN, OF COPENHAGEN, DENMARKa STAIR-COVER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 607,457, dated July 19, 1898.
Application led December 2l, 1897. Serial No. 662,955. (No model.) Patented in Denmark April 26,1897,No. 1,067,I in England dune 8,1897,No.13,986,' in Sweden September 23, 1897, No. 8,309, and in Norway November l, 1897, No. 5,764.
T0 all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, PETER RAsMUssEN, joiner and carver, a citizen of Denmark, residing at Peter Schramsgade 6, Copenhagen, Denmark, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Stair-Covers, (for which I have received Letters Patent in Denmark, No. 1,067, dated April 26, 1897; in Norway, No. 5,764, dated November 1, 1897; in Sweden, No. 8,309, dated September 23, 1897, and in Great Britain, No. 13,986, dated June 8, 1897 and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to a method of covering stairs with linoleum by which it is insured that the front edge of the linoleum is protected against damage, so that the durability of the covering when applied by this method is considerably increased at the same time as the screw-heads b are covered, and thus invisible.
The accompanying drawing shows a transverse section through a step of a staircase covered with linoleum according to the improved method.
In the front edge of the step A of the staircase, which is out obliquely or beveled off, is
placed an angular metal edge piece or strip B, the front of which coincides with the front of the step, While its vertical part protrudes so far that it covers the front edge of the sheet C of linoleum, which is glued upon the step A and upon the horizontal part of the edge piece or strip B and prevents the said sheet C from being damaged or shagged. Along the back and at the sides the edges of the linoleum are covered with wooden lists c, which are glued or nailed to the back and side pieces of the staircase D. The upper edge of the strip B is of course level with the upper surface of the linoleum.
Having now particularly described and ascertained the nature of my said invention and in what manner the same is t0 be performed, I declare that what I claim is- The combination of the front side of the step A cut obliquely or beveled off and fitted with an angular metal edge piece or strip B the horizontal part of which is covered by linoleum; the front edge of the latter being covered by the vertical part of the strip B.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature 55 in presence of two witnesses.
PETER RASMUSSEN.
