Patented Nov. 17, 1931 UNITED STATES DORA B. GRANT, OF ARCOLA, ILLINOIS rRoNrNe BOARD covnn Application filed October 14, 1930. Serial No. 488,640.
The present invention relates to ironing board covers.
An object of this invention is to provide a cover for an ironing board which may be easily and quickly mounted on the board and which includes means for maintaining the cover in a tight condition at all times.
Another object of this invention is to provide a cover` of this kind which is so constructed that it will not creep on the ironing board and wherein the means for holding the component parts of the structure are positioned beneath the upper surface of the board.
The abovekand various other objects and advantages of this invention will in part be described and in part be understood from the following detailed description of the present preferred embodiment, the same being illustrated in the accompanying draw- Figure 1 is a detail bottom plan view of a device constructed according to the preferred embodiment of this invention; Figure 2 is an enlarged fragmentary detail view showing the means for securing the hood of the device on the forward end of the ironing board; and
Figure 3 is a transverse sectional view taken substantially through the center of the device, showing the manner in which the cover is mounted on the ironing board.
Referring to the drawings wherein like numerals of reference designate correspond ing parts throughout the several views, the numeral 10 designates the body of a cloth or fabric cover, preferably of unbleachedmuslin which is constructed according to the preferred embodiment of this invention which is adapted to be mounted on a conventional elongated ironing board, the body7 comprising an upper portion 11 which is adapted to engage the upper surface of the ironing per portion 11 being extended beneath the lower surface of the board as indicated at 12.
A plurality of tape members 13 are positioned along the marginal edge portions of r the lower extensions 12, the tape or tie memo bers 13 being adapted to be tied together so board, the marginal edge portions of the upas to tension or tighten the upper cover portion 11 on the top of the board.
The forward end of the cover 10 is provided with a hood or pocket 14 so as to removably engage the forward or restrict-ed end of the ironing board, the pocket member 14; being suitably shaped so as to closely engage about the restricted end of the ironing board.
The free marginal edge 15 of the pocket member lll is provided with a closed loop 16 00 in the form of tape or the like and the adjacent tie members 13 are adapted to be extended through the loop 16 and when tightened are adapted to pull the cap member 14 longi tudinally of the ironing board.
In the use of this device, the cover 10 is adapted to be slipped over the conventional padding or the like which is used in ironing board constructions.
The tie members 13 are preferably opened 70 so as to facilitate placement of the cover on the device, the pocket or cap member 14 being first slipped over the tapering or restricted end of the ironing board.
The lower free end portions 12 may be eX` tended beneath the ironing board and the tie members 13 tightened to the desired degree so as to tighten the upper surface 11 of the cover. f i
It will be obvious from the foregoing that 80 a Vrelatively simpleand practical cover has been devised which may be readily mounted on the ironing board and which will not creep along the board during the use thereof.
Itis, of course, understood that various changes and modifications may be made in the details of construction and desi gn of the above specificallv described embodiment of this invention without departing from them. spirit thereof, such changes and modifications' 9G being restricted only by the scope of the following claim.
What is claimed is z- An ironing board cover of the characterY described comprising a body, a cap secured to one end of said bodv and adapted to engage one end of an ironing board.v said cap having the freemarginal edge portion thereof disposed. beneath the ironing board. a loop secui'-, ing member secured to said free portion of said cap and a plurality of pairs of tie members secured to said body whereby to securely fasten the body around the ironing board, one pair of said tie members being disposed adjacent said cap and adapted to engage in said loop member whereby to tighten the cap on the ironing board coactive With the tightening of the body about the ironing board.
In testimony whereof l hereunto alix my signature.
