B. HANSEN ROLLER SCREEN Filed June 12, 1950 TEE-2- Zfi WITNESSES Z0 INVENTOR flernarai Hcwzsen mam/1% ATTORNEYS Patented Nov. 17, 1931 UNITED STATES BERNARD HANSEN, OF FREEPORT, NEW YORK ROLLER SCREEN Application filed June 12,
The invention comprehends a roller screen which is inexpensive to manufacture and which is serviceable in use and which is also easily opened and closed.
The invention further comprehends a roller screen having its lower edge enclosed by a reinforcing member, the ends of the reinforcing member being disposed in guideways, and the reinforcing member being provided. with a flange by which the screen may be raised and lowered.
The invention further comprehends a roller screen having a guideway for a side of a screen, the guideway being provided with a catch for holding the screen in adjusted position, and means being provided for adjusting the action of the catch.
Additional objects of the invention will appear in the following specification in which the preferred form of the invention is described.
In the drawings similar reference characters refer to similar parts in all the views, of which Figure 1 is a perspective view illustrating a window frame provided with my roller screen, 7
Figure 2 is an enlarged sectional view on the line 2-2 of Figure 1,
Figure 3 is a perspective View of the catch which is disposed in the guideway for holding the screen,
Figure 4. is an enlarged sectional View on the line 4-4: of Figure 1,
Figure 5 is a fragmentary perspective view illustrating the reinforcing member and flange on the edge of the roller screen, and
Figure 6 is an enlarged sectional plan view showing the guideway, the reinforced screen disposed in the guideway, the means for securing the catch in the guideway, and the means for regulating the adjustment of the catch.
By referring to the drawings it will be seen that the window frame 10 is provided with side members 11, each side member having an inwardly disposed guideway 12 in which the side edges of the screen 13'eXtend, the said screen 13 being mounted on a spring drum 14 so that when the screen 13 is not in 1930. Serial No. 460,715.,
use it may be disposed on the said spring drum 14:.
As has been stated, the side edges of the screen 13 are disposed in the guideways 12 in the side members 11. 'The lower edge 15 of the screen 13 .is enclosed by a reinforcing member 16, the reinforcing member 16 being U-shaped and inverted in cross section and extending against the rear of the screen 13 at the edge of the screen and at the front of the screen so that when the reinforcing memher is secured to the screen it will reinforce the lower edge of the screen from side to side, the sides of this reinforcing member 16 extending in the guideways 12. The reinforcing member 16is also provided with a forwardly extending flange 17 by means of which the screen 13 'may be conveniently raised and lowered.
At the bottom of each guideway 12 there is disposed a catch 18,each of these catches 18 having two vertically extending parallel sides 19 which are preferably corrugated horizontally, as illustrated in Figure 3 of the drawings. The bottoms of these corrugated sides at the side of the catch have outwardly extending flanges 20 so that while the bottom of the catch 18 is disposed in the guideway 12 the flanges 20 will be disposed under'the side members 11, and, if desired, may be further secured to the side members 11. As illustrated in Figure 6 of the drawings each of the catches is held in place by means of a screw or nail extending through an opening in the rear portion 21 of each catch and into the side member 11, and, if desired, into the window frame 10.
Inasmuch as the reinforcing member 16 extends across the screen from one side to the other with the ends of the reinforcing member 16 traveling in the guideways 12, it will be understood that the ends of this reinforcing member 16 will move between the sides 19 of the catch 18 and that the horizontal corrugations in the sides 19 will serve to press against the reinforcing member 16 to hold the reinforcing member 16 in the extended position. However, as an additional means for regulating the action of the sides of the catch 18 on the ends of the reinforcing memher 16, I prefer to provide a screw 22 which extends through an opening in the side member 11 and presses one of the side members 19 toward or against its companion side, and as shown in Figure 6 of the drawings, to regulate the action of the sides 19 of the catch relatively to the reinforcing member 16.
What is claimed is:
1. In a roller screen, a guideway for a side edge of a screen, and a catch in the guideway having opposite parts for gripping the side edge of the screen which is disposed therebetween, the catch parts having flanges which extend beyond the guideway.
2. In a roller screen, a guideway for a side edge of a screen, a catch in the guideway having opposite parts for gripping the side edge of the screen which is disposed therebetween, and means to press one part of the catch toward the other part of the catch for adjustment purposes.
3. In a roller screen, a guideway for a side edge of? a screen, and a catch in the guideway having opposite parts with transverse corrugations for grlpping the side edge of a screen which is disposed therebetween, the catch arts having a flange which extends beyond t e guideway.
4. In a roller screen, a guideway for a side edge of a screen, a catch in the guideway having opposite parts with corrugations for gripping the side edge of a screen which is disposed therebetween, and means to press one part of the catch toward the other part of the catch for adjustment purposes.
