Description

NOV. 17, 1931. ENGEL 1,832,369
ILLUMINATED ADVERTISING DEVICE Filed July 6, 1931 Patented Nov. 17, 1931 JOSEF ENGEL, F IPRAHA, GZECI-IOSLOVAKIA ILLUMINATED ADVERTISING DEVICE Applicationfiled July 6, 1931, Serial No.
This invention relates to an illuminated advertising device and consists in the provision in a frame of a number of prismatic, rotatable drums carrying transparent pictures and an endless band carrying transparent advertising matter relating to the pictures, means being provided for transmitting, from the same driving shaft, continuous motion to the band and intermittent motion to the drums.
Fig. 1 of the accompanying drawings represents a plan view, partly in section, of a device according to the invention, and
Fig. 2 is a rear elevation of the same.
The device comprises a base plate 1 carrying two side frames 2 and 2 and two end rails 3 and 3. There is also a longitudinal rail 3 which divides the structure into a top and a bottom portion. The top portion of the structure encloses an endless band 4 which is led in a sinuous manner over vertical guide rollers 5 and 6 so that the long band will be contained in a comparatively small space. Two of the rollers 5 maintain the band behind and parallel to a translucent projecting surface on to which transparent advertising matter on the band is pro jected by means of electric lamps 8 carried by a board 9. Movement is transmitted to 3 the band through the medium of a driving roller 25 against which the band is clamped by a roller 26. The roller 25 is mounted on a vertical driving shaft 20 which receives its motion from an electric motor 15 through the medium of a worm 18 and a worm wheel 19.
The lower portion of the structure contains in the illustrated example, two prismatic drums 7 and 7 mounted in a vertical position and supported by means of shafts 11 in bearings 12 on the base 1. The upper ends of the'drums carry three-armed spiders 13 whereby they are rotatably supported on rigid shafts 14 which are connected to the rail 3" and which carry, inside the drums,
electric lamps 10. The sides of the drums are composed of transparent pictures which are projected by means of the lamps onto the projecting surface 30. The shafts 11 are fitted with sprocket wheels 17 which are engaged by an endless chain 16 for imparting 548,925, and in Germany May 12, 1931.
motion to the drums. A tappet 21 on the driving shaft 20 is adapted to engage bolts 22 on the chain for imparting intermittent motion to the drums, the arrangement being such that a fresh side of each drum is placed in projecting position behind the surface 30 each time the tappet engages the chain.
The current for driving the motor 15 and for feeding the lamps, is led through a plugand-socket connector 29. The circuit of the 60 lamps 10 includes a switching device comprlsing a rigidly supported contact spring 27 and a ring 28 which is carried by the shaft 20 and which is swept by the spring. The ring 28 carries insulating segments which 5 contact with the spring 27 and maintain the lamp circuit broken while the drums are movlng.
The structure is enclosed in a suitable casmg.
I claim:
1. An illuminated advertising device comprising a frame, a number of vertical, prismatic, rotatable drums mounted within said frame and carrying transparent pictures, an endless band carrying transparent advertising matter, vertical guide rollers for said band arranged in the frame, means for transmitting light through the drums and through the band, means for imparting continuous motion to the band, and means for imparting intermittent motion to the drums.
2. An illuminated advertising device comprising a frame, a number of vertical, prismatic, rotatable drums mounted within said frame and carrying transparent pictures, an endless band carrying transparent advertising matter, vertical guide rollers for said band arranged in the frame, electric lamps for transmitting light through the band and 9 through the drums, a vertical driving shaft, an electric driving motor for said shaft, and means for transmitting, from said shaft, continuous motion to the band and intermittent motion to the drums.
3. A device as claimed in claim 2 wherein the means for transmitting motion to the band comprises a driving roller mounted on the shaft, and a clamping roller arranged to bear against said driving roller.
4. A device as claimed in claim 2 wherein the means for transmitting motion to the drums comprises sprocket Wheels connected to the drums a chain running on said sprocket Wheels, and a tappet on the driving shaft co-operating with the links of said chain for rotating the drums.
5. The device claimed in claim 2 in combination with means operated by the driving shaft for maintaining the lamp circuit broken While the drums move.
