This invention relates to razors. The general object of the invention is to provide an improved safety razor and blade.
A further object of the invention is to provide a safety razor including a removable blade, and wherein novel means is provided for honing the blade without removing it from the razor.
An additional object of the invention is to provide a razor having honing material thereon.
Another object of the invention is to provide a razor including a novel guard and clamping member.
Other objects and the advantages of this invention will be apparent from the following description taken in connection with the accompanying drawings wherein:

Referring to the drawings by reference characters I have indicated my improved safety razor generally at 10. As shown the device 10 comprises a holder 12 and a blade 13. The holder 12 includes a clamping member 14, a guard member 15 and a handle 16.
The clamping member 14 is preferably made of metal and is rigid and includes a pair of spaced rearwardly extending polygonal pins 17 which are locatedon the longitudinal center thereof (see Fig. 2).
At the center of the front member 14 I provide an elongated aperture 18 and in the outer face of the member 14 I provide an elongated recess 19 which is coaxial with the aperture 18. The longitudinal axes of the 50 aperture 18 and the recess 19 extend transversely of the member 14. Adjacent each longitudinal edge of the clamping member 14 I provide a recess 20 in the inner face thereof and insert therein a hone member 21 which extends beyond the inner face of the clamping member 14 and which may be a natural stone or a composition abrasive material.
The guard member 15 is preferably made of a spring metal and is flexible and includes a pair of spaced polygonal apertures 22 which are spaced to register with the pins 17 of the front member 14- and a central elongated aperture 23 which matches the aperture 18 of the front member 14.
The longitudinal edges of the member 15 are serrated as indicated at 24 and adjacent the serrations I provide grooves 25 in each of which is positioned a hone member 26 similar to the hone members of the clamping member 14 and which extends beyond the inner face of the guard 15. Adjacent one end of the handle 16 I provide a threaded recess 27 and an enlarged recess 28. For securing the holder together I provide a bolt 30 which includes a polygonal shank 31 which is positioned in the aperture 18 of the clamping member 14 and the aperture 23 of the guard 15 and an enlarged bead 32 which is positioned in the recess 19 of the clamping member 14 and a reduced threaded stem 33 which engages the threads in the threaded recess 27 of the handle 16.
The razor blade 13 includes a body of uniform thickness having tapered cutting edges '35, a central polygonal aperture 36 and a pair of spaced elongated rectangular apertures 37.
\Vhen the razor 10 is assembled for operation the blade 13 is positioned between the clamping member 14 and the guard member 15 as shown in Fig. 1. In this position the pins 17 of the clamping member 14 extend through the elongated apertures 37 in the blade and are positioned in the polygonal aperture 22 of the guard 15 and the polygonal shank 31 of the bolt 30 extends through the elongated aperture 18 of the clamping mem-' ber, the polygonal aperture 36 of the blade and the elongated aperture 23 of the guard 15.
When the device is thus assembled the hones 21 of the clamping member 14 engage one face of the blade and the bones 26 of the guard 15 engage the other face of the blade. hen the handle 16 is tightened up on the bolt it forces the center portions of the guard 15 and the blade towards the clamping member 14 thereby bowing the guard member and the blade as shown in Fig. 1. In this position the blade 13 is firmly clamped in the holder and the device '10 is ready for a shaving operation.
WVhen it is desired to honethe blade the handle 16 is backed away from the guard 15 until the blade is movable between the guard and the clamping member. The holder 12 is held firmly and then the handle 16 moved transverselythus moving the blade 13 between the the guard 15 and the clamping member 14 while the holder remains stationary. As the blade is thus moved the opposed cutting edges 35 of the blade alter nately move between the bones 21 and 26 as shown in F ig. 5. After the blade has been honed the blade is centered in relation to the holder and the .handle tightened on the bolt to clamp the blade in position as shown in Fig. 1.
In Fig. 6 I have indicated generally at 40 a modification of the device 10. The modification 40 includes a clamping member 41 which is similar to the clamping member 14 of the device 10 and includes all the elements thereof. The clamping member 41 is rabbeted adjacent each longitudinal edge as at 42 and has secured thereto as by screws 43, side members 44. These side members are each provided with a groove 45 in which a hone member 46 is ositioned.
The device 40 inc udes a guard member 47 which is constructed similar to the guard member 15 of the device. 10 and which includes a groove 48 adjacent each longitudinal edge in which is positioned a U shaped member 49 in which is positioned a hone member 50. The member 49 is provided with a plurality of studs 51 which pass through apertures 52 in the member 47 and are clamped thereto by nuts 53. Thus it will be seen that the hone members of the device 40 are readil y removableand may be replaced when they become worn.
The operation of the device 40 is the same as that previously described in connection with the device 10.
In Fig. 7 I have shown another modified form of retaining the honing members in position. In this modification the clamping 'member 55 and the guard 56 are provided on their inner surfaces with dove-tailed grooves 57 in whichsimilarly shaped bars 58 are positioned. The bars 58 are a tight fit in the grooves and are each provided wit-h a recess 59 in which a hone member 60 is positioned.

From the foregoing description it will be apparent that I have provided a novel safety razor which is simple in construction and efiicient in use.
- Having thus described my invention, I claim:
1. A razorcoinprising a guard havin a central body portion, a clamping mem or associated with said guard, said clamping member having spaced posts thereon and having removable edge portions including strips of hone material adj acent to but spaced from the edge thereof, a blade arranged between said guard and said clamping member, means to hold said clamping member against said guard and means to mount said blade for movement between said clamping member and said guard.
2. A razor comprising a guard having a central body portion and having a strip of hone material removably mounted along each edge of said body portion, a clamping member associated with said guard, said clamping member having strips of hone material adjacent to but spaced from the edge thereof, a blade arranged between said guard and said clamping member, means to hold said guard and clamping member in assembled relation and means to mount said blade for movement between said clamping member and said guard.
3. A razor comprising a guard having acentral body portion and having a strip of hone material along each edge of said body portion, a clamping member associated with said guard, said clamping member having strips of hone material adjacent to but spaced from the edges thereof, a blade arranged between said guard and said clamping member, means to hold said blade, guard and clamping member in assembled relation and means to mount said blade for movement over said hone material.

A razor comprising a guard having a central body portion and having a strip of hone material along one edge of said body portion, a clamping member associated with saidguard, said clamping member having a strip of hone material adjacent to but spaced from one edgethereof, a blade arranged between said guard and said clamping member, a handle, means whereby said blade and handle are relatively immovable and means to mount said guard and clamping member forv movement relative to said bladeandhandle:

A razor comprising a guard including a body portion having a strip of hone material adjacent to but spaced from each side edge thereof, said hone material being round ed on its inner face, a clamping member associated with saidguard, said clamping member having strips of hone material adjacent each side edge thereof, said hone material of said clamping member beingrounded on its inner face, said clamping member having a pair of spaced posts thereon, said guard having a pair of spaced apertures therein to re ceive said posts, a razor blade arranged between said guard and said clamping member, a handle, a screw member, said guard and said clamping member each having an elongated transversely extending aperture therein to receive said screw member, said razor blade comprising a body of uniform, thickness and having sharpened parallel opposed edges, said blade body having a pair of spaced elongated transversely extending apertures therein to receive said osts and having a central aperture therein fitting said screw member.

In a razor, a guard, a clamping member associated with said guard, a strip of hone material adjacent opposed sides of said guard, a strip of hone material adjacent opposed sides of said clamping member, means to hold said guard and said clamping member in assembled relation, a blade, and means to mount said blade for movement over said hone material.

In a razor, a guard, said guard being made of a flexible material, a clamping member, said clamping member being rigid, a stri of hone material adjacent the edge of said guard, a stri of bone material adjacent the edge of sai clamping member, means to hold said guard and said clamping member in assembled relation, a blade and means to mount said blade for movement over said clamping member.

In a razor, a guard, a clampin member, a blade positioned between sai guard and said clamping member, means to hold said guard, blade and clamping member assembled and means to allow said blade to move laterally between said guard and said clamping member, a strip of bone 'material along opposed sides of said guard and a stri of hone material along opposed sides of sai clamping member, means to mount said blade for movement whereby when said blade is moved laterally the edges of said blade pass between said hone strips of said guard and said hone strips of said clamping member.
14. In a razor, a guard, a clamping member associated with said guard, said guard having strips of removable hone material mounted adjacent opposed sides thereof, said clamping member having strips of removable hone material mounted adjacent opposed sides thereof, means to hold said guard and said clamping member in assembled relation, a blade and means to mount said blade for movement over said hone material.
