Description

A. C. MOTT.
CHRISTMAS TREE-HOLDER.
No.183,194. Patented Oct.10.1876.
UNITED STATES ABBAM O. MOTT, OF PHILADELPHIA,
PATENT QFFIGE.
PENNSYLVANIA, ASSIGNOR' TO HIM- SELF, E. A. CORBIN, AND HERMANN ALBRECHT, OF SAME PLACE.
IMPROVEMENT IN CHRISTMAS-TREE HOLDERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 183,194, dated October 10, 1876; application filed August 24, 1876.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ABRAM O. Mo'r'r, of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, have invented an Improved Christmas Tree Holder, of which the following is a specification:
The object of my invention is to construct a cheap and effective holder for the stems of Christmas-trees and other analogous objects.
In the accompanying drawing, Figure l is a plan view, and Fig. 2 a side View, partly in section, of my improved holder, which is made in two main parts, namely, the socket A, with its legs a, by preference three in number, and the socket B, forming part of a plate, I), which may consist of as many arms as there are legs,
-so that the foot of each of the latter may rest on one of the arms, and so that both may be secured to the floor or to a box, or to any suitable object by the same screw.
It will be understood by those familiar with molding and castingoperations that the molds for the two parts can be made with facility, and that the castings can be produced at a cheap rate, while the two sockets will form a steady support for the stem of a Christmastree or other like object. If desired, however, one or both of the sockets may be furnished with a set-screw, e, for piercing the stem, and preventing its easy withdrawal.
It is not essential that the lower socket should be combined with and adapted to the legs of the upper socket in the manner shown. The lower socket may, for instance, be provided with arms, shown by dotted lines, for attachment to the legs of the upper socket, the main aim of my invention being to make a holder with two sockets by the use of two castings only.
I claim as my invention- 1. The socket A and its legs, in combination with a socket, B, constructed for attachment to the legs of the said socket A, substantially as set forth.
2. The combination of the socket A and its legs with the socket B, having arms I) adapted to the feet of the said legs, as specified.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
ABRAM O. MOTT.
