Description
UNITED STATES PATENT QFFICE.
JOHN J. RILEY, OF WEST TROY, NEW YORK.
IMPROVEMENT IN TRUNDLE-HOOP HANDLES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 182,959, dated October 3, 1876; application filed February 28, 1876.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, J. J. RILEY, of West Troy, in the county of Albany, and in the State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Mode for Propelling Wooden Hoops; and. do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, making a part of this specification.
My invention relates to toy hoops; and it consists in the construction of the handle for propelling the same, as will be hereinafter more fully set forth.
In the annexed drawing, Figure l is a side view of a hoop, with handle, and Fig. 2 is a plan of the handle.
A represents an ordinary hoop, and B is the handle for propelling the same. The end of the handle B is slotted or forked for a suitable distanee for the passage of the hoop. In the upper end of the slot is placed a roller, 0,
and in the ends of the prongs is, by a wire, a, suspended a bell, D. This handle or propeller is operated by holding it almost perpendicularly to the back part of the hoop, and forcing the roller against the outside thereof, the bell vibrating and sounding during the movement.
I am aware that a handle or guide to operate horizontally, and provided with three rollers and a slotted stay, is not new; hence Ido not claim that as being my invention.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The combination, with a hoop, A, of the slotted or forked handle B, roller 0, and bell D, substantially as herein set forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing I have hereunto set my hand and seal this 12th day of February, 1876.
JOHN J. RILEY. [L. 8.] Witnesses:
G. L. EVERT, GEo. M. PAYFER.
