REEL FOR WIRE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 438,718, dated October 21, 1890.
Application filed April 28, 1890. Serial No. 349,855. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that 1, JOHN A. TRUMAN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Grand View, in the county of Jackson and State of Missouri, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Reels for Wire, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
My invention relates to improvements in reels for wire; and it consists in the novel combination and arrangement of parts hereinafter described and claimed.
In the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, Figure 1 is a perspective view of my invention; and Fig. 2 is a plan view thereof, showing a coil of wire wound upon it.
In the said drawings, A and B represent two parallel bars of the same length connected by the cross-pieces O and D and having their ends formedinto handles A and B. H represents a coil of wire wound on the reel. These cross-pieces are-secured to the parallel bars at such points that the bar A at one end projects beyond the bar B, and that at the other end the bar B projects beyond the bar A. The object of this arrangement is to enable the persons using the reel-one at each end-to hold and operate the same with less difficulty, arising from the liability of their hands interfering with each other.
The cross-pieces C and D project beyond the outer sides of. the bars A and B, and have their ends cut away, as at E. These crosspieces serve the double purpose of preventing the wire from spreading too much and of joining the parts A and B.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. In a reel for wire, the combination of a frame with handles on each end thereof, one of said handles projecting beyond the end of the other, substantially as described.
2. In a reel for wire, two parallel bars, cross-pieces connecting said bars, and two handles on each end of the frame thus constructed, one of said handles projecting beyond the end of the other, as described.
