IMPROVEMENT IN WINDOW-BEAD FASTENERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 182,867, dated October 3, 1876; application filed August 28, 1876.

Be it known that I, HIRAM W. STETSON, of Black Brook, in the county of Clinton and State of New York, have invented a new and Improved Window-Bead Fastener, of which the following is a specification:
In the accompah yin g drawing, Figure 1 represents a side view of a window-bead, as fastened by my improved device and Fig. 2 is a detail horizontal section on line 0 oof the window-bead fastener.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
The object of my invention is to provide a simple and efieotive fastener for the windowbeads or strips, by which the bead may be readily rexnoved for taking out the sash for cleaning, or other purpbses, and thereby the annoying detaching of the bead by drawing nails or taking ont screws be dispensed with.
The invention consists of a xnetallic fastenin g-plate, having a key-hole slot that is socured to the detachable strip or bead and connected to the window-frame by a fixed screw.
In the drawing, A represents a window bead or stop, whioh is secured to the window-frame by means of key-hole-slotted fastening-plates B and screws O, applied near the upper and lower ends. The plates B are either driven into holes of the bead drilled by an auger, so as to be retained by the friction of the surrounding wood, or they are attached by small fastening screws, mails, or otherwise. The key-hole slots of the plates B are narrow at one end to fit over the shanks of the screws, and wide enough at the other end to allow the heads of the fixed screws to pass readily throngh the key-hole slots when the bead is slid forward along the screws.
The bead rnay thus be readily detached from the screws and removed from the windowframe, while the screws romain fixed to the same. The sashes may thon be readily removed from the window by merely being raised above the lower screws.
After oleaning the sashes they are quickly replaced into position in the window-frame by slippin g the. detachable beads on the sorews and securing them to the window-frame. By tightening or loosening the fastening-screws 0 the putting on or removing of the beads or strips is facilitated, while, at the same time, the reliable fastening of the beads to the window-frame is obtained.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent The combination of the metallic plate B, having a key-hole slot, the detachable strip or bead A, and the fixed screw C on the window-oasing, as and for the purpose set forth.
