Description

J. A. ROBERTS ROOFING PAPER CUTTER Qct. 20, 1931.
Filed Aug. 13, 1930 /Patented Oct. at, 1931 JOHN A. RoRER'rs, or ROLEE, IOWA 7 RoorInG PAPER CUTTER I Application filed August 13, 1930. Serial nma'zaoss.
cutting edge as it operates in. order to attain the end stated. 1
The more specific objects and advantages will become apparent from a consideration is of thedescription following taken in connection with accompanying drawings illustrating an operative embodiment.
In said draw1ngs:
1 '20 elevation, the'o-perators hand being suggested as opcratively positioningthe same as in use, Figure 2 is an enlarged side elevation of the cutter alone, V
Figure 3 is acentral vertical sectional view of the cutter,
Figure 4 is a cross sectional view takenon the line 4-4 of Figure 2, and 1 Figure 5 is a cross sectional view taken on the line 55 of Figure 2. Referring specifically to the drawings, the tool comprises a disk cutter as at 10 which is freely revoluble on a rivet or stud 10 which connects the cutter to a handle or operating body 11. Such handle consists of an upright grip portion 12. At the lower por-r tion of the grip 12, an enlarged base 13 is provided which is bifurcated to accommodate the cutter 10 and whichis extended beyond opposite sides of the disk to provide a rest as 0 at 14. and 15, for the hand of the operator as suggested in Figure 1. 4 r
The grip 12 is hollowso as to constitute a reservoir, and located therein is an. applicator 16, of waste, cotton battingforthe] like l l V i p which is saturated with kerosene, other oil or Figure 1 is aview showing the tool inside I carrying said cutter member the like. The upper end of the grip 12 is provided with a removableplug or cap 17,
preferably screwed in place as at 18 as shown. As appears in Figure 8, theinterior of the grip 12 communicates'with the bifurcation 5Q of the base Band the applicator 16 constantly I wipes or engages edge 19 of the cutter 10, constantly applying oil or other material thereto as the cutter is drawn over roofing paper or like material,
the oil-coated cutting edge preventing tar, rubber or other'material of the roofing'paper adhering to the cutter and interfering with effective cutting.
Various changes may vided they'fall within the spirit and scope of the invention. i I 7 I I claim as my invention i V 1. A cutter device of the class described comprising a cutter member, a hollow handle and applicator means in the handle to apply. material to the cutting edge of the-cutter to prevent adhesion thereto during cutting operation.
2. A tool of the class described compris g I ing a hollow handlefa rotary. cutter carried 'thereby,-and an applicator carried within the handle and coacting with. the cutter; to' apply material to the cutting edge of the cutter during a cutting operation toprevent adhesion 7;
of undesired matter to the cutter.
8. A tool of the. class described compris- 'l inga hollow handle, a cutter carried thereby,
an applicator carriedwithin the handle and coacting with the cutter to apply material ,so to the cutting edge of the-cutter duringafi" cutting operation to'prevent adhesion of undesired matter-to the cutter, and abase on the body adjacent the cutter forengagement bythe hand of the operator." f g ,85
4. -A'tool of the cl 'ss described comprising a hollow handle, a rotary cutter carried,
thereby, n applicator carried within the handleand coacting with the cutter to apply material toi the cutting edge (of the cutter 0 orrlcE the periphery or cutting be resorted to P 5; i
V2 p t 1,828,621
during a cutting operation to prevent adhesion of undesired matter to the cutter, a base on the body adjacent the cutter for engagement by the hand of the operator.
5 5. A tool of the class described comprising a hollow handle, a base therefor extending laterally therefrom and being bifurcated, a cutter pivoted inthe bifurcation, applicator means'within the handle to apply material it to the cutting edge of the cutter and a closure for the upper end of the handle.
In testimony whereof I aflixmy signature.
