My invention relates to banks or safes for receiving and retaining money, such as colns, and particularly to banks adapted to'be carried by the user presenting the appearance of a book. The book-like binding may be embossed or otherwise treated to present advertising matter or other indicia. These book form banks are popularly employedas ad vertising novelties by commercial and savings banks.
An object of my invention is to prov de a book' form bank having means for recelvlng and retaining coins.
A further object of my invention is to provide a book form bank whichis of simple and economical construction and which can be described herein as the invention, as defined 5 5 of Figure 4.
' Figure 6 is another detail of, a coin retainer pocket showing the depressions which are made in the top sheet when a coin is extracted from the pocket.
Figure 7 is a cross section taken on the line 7 7 of Figure 6. V I
In its preferred form, the bank of my invention comprises a cover adapted to be such as-by an adhesive, and secured as'a-whole to'thecover. j I 'As disclosed; in-Figure 1 of thedrawings, the book form b'ank'of my inventionpreferably includes a covering usuallyfabricated of paper, leather or-other flexible material. The cover is[centrally folded to" provide a back2 anda front 3.
" Means for receivingand retaining coins'are provided and usually include a plurality of superimposed apertured sheets 4 and 5 which are conveniently secured to one another, such I as by'fanf adhesive, and secured as a whole to-the back coverof the bank. A'sheet 4 is disposed adjacent the cover of the bank and is p referably provided' with a plurality of "apertures 6 substantially circular in general contour but'having an'extended oval portion 7. Another sheet15 is superimposedupon and secured to sheet 4 and is preferably provided with a plurality of apertures 8" of semicircular"general configuration having notches '9 disposed overthe oval portions 7 of apertures 6. Apertures'8register with apertures 6"le'avin'g walls '11 extending above the apertures '6 to provide coin retaining pockets 12. Coins are retained in thepocket 12 with-the oval portions 7 ofthe apertures '6 extending above the top of the coins.
In or'derto assist in'the extraction of coins to from-thepocket, I preferably make the aperitures'8 smalle r than the apertures 6" thus forming lips 1-3 which extend above the oval stantially-the same Width as the diameter of the 'coinswhich are insertedin the pockets, it is necessary to exert force ,toextract the coins; A tool-or-a finger of*the hand may be inserted adjacent the" lips 13 depressing such as by an adhesive, to form the pockets.
.If it is desired to retain two'or more coins my :hand.
in each pocket, a thicker sheet or several sheets, having apertures similar to sheets 4 and 5 can be superimposed upon and secured to one another and thus pockets of any convenient depth are formed.
My .bank can be conveniently Constructed so as to receive and retain coins of different diameters, by merely enlarging the apertures in the sheets. Further, it is to be noted that .the apertures in each sheet :maynot be of the samesize'as it may be-desired to retain coins of different value and hence of difi'er;
ent sizes in the one bank.
The front cover 3 can. he foldedover the.
sheets serving as a closure and also serving to conceal ithecoins whiohiareretained :inflthe pocket. This cover has the additional function ofpreventing the pockets of the Joank V V from catching articles in the clothing.
I claim: I g i 1. In a book form-bank, a coveringof'fiex- .ible material adapted to be folded to presentthe appearance of a book, a .flcxible sheet having a substantially circular aperture therein secured to said covering, and a .sec v0nd flexible sheet adheslvely securedto andsuperimposed vupon said first named sheet, said second sheet having a substantially semicircular aperture therein adapted to register withsaid-first named aperture. 7 a
2. Inabook form bank, a=covering-of flex-izble material adapted to be folded to present the rappearanceof a boolg, a sheet having a substantially circular aperture therein secured ztosaidcovering; said aperture having a a portion of .oval contour, anda second sheet -.secured to and superimposed aupon said first namedzsheet; said second sheet having a substantially semi-circular aperture -w-ith a notched gportion therein adapted-to register with said first named aperture. V
