IMPROVEMENT IN SPRING-BEDS.

Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 182,714, dated September 26, 1876; application. filed July 11, 1876.

To all whom tt may concern Be it known that I, GIDEON A. RUSSELL, of Lyons, in the county of Clinton and State ot' Iowa, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in SpringBeds5 and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable othersV skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, referenceV being had to the accompanying drawings, and to letters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.

Figure 1 is a perspective view. Fig. 2 is a longitudinal vertical section. Fig. 3'is an enlarged, view of the connecting-rod and hooks.

My invention relates to the frames and connecting rods and hooks of coil-spring bedbottoms, constructed and combined as hereinafter described.

A A are the side rails, and B B are the end rails ofthe frame, which rails are enlarged in the middle to strengthen them, and are jointed together by joints B', beveled downward and outward from the inner edges of the end rails and fastened by bolts, as shown in the drawings. G represents the coil-spring bottom, held by rods D, having hooks c and straight ends a, formed by acute angles at b, so that the ends a may be readily driven into the outer edges of the end rails, and curved aboveV the acute angles to fit the rounded surface of the upper and outer corners of the end rails, as shown in the drawings.

The ordinary joints of the frames holding coil-spring bed-bottoms are liable, in use, to become loose and squeaky; butthese beveled joints are tightened by the pressure upon the bed, while, by the shape and position of the ends a b of the connecting-rods D, the strain is thrown in a right line with the side rails, and the usual upward strain upon the outer edges of the end rails is avoided.

What l claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-

1. The frame of a coil-spring bed-bottom, having the rails joined together by beveled joints B', substantially as and for the purposes described.

2. The rods D, having ends a, formed by acute angles at b, and curved above the angles, in combination with the rails B, rounded at the upper and outer corners, and joined to rails, A by beveled ljoints B', substantially as and for the purposes described.
