IMPROVEMENT IN PLOW-POINTS Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 182,634, dated September 26, 1876; application filed July e, 1876.

To all whom 'it may concern:

Beit known that I, JOHN W. BEVERLY, of Lisbon, in the county of Howard and State of Missouri, have invented a new and valuable Improvement in Plowshares; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the construction and operation ofthe same, reference being had to the annexed drawings, making a part of` this specification, and to the letters and gures of reference marked thereon.

rlhis invention consists in a plowshare adapted to be reversed, and thereby automatically sharpened in the process of plowing; also, in the peculiar construction of said share and of the other parts of the plow, as hereinafter fully set forth. Y

In the annexed drawings, A represents the land-side of a plow, to which is rigidly attached a parallel bar orlarm, B, provided with an oblique blade, O, and curved brace D, for supporting the mold-board iu the usual manner. Between landside A and 'mold-board supporting-arm B is a space lor recess, E, extending through from top to bottom, and open in front, but closed at the rear. F is a plow share and point, so constructed that the rear part thereof exactly llls said recess, while the forward part projects after the ordinary manner. Said share or point is dat on top and bottom, and shaped like a wedge, so that the position of said upper and lower sides may be reversed without at all alfetting the adaptation of the share to the rest of the apparatus. The top and bottom of said share are obliquely grooved to receive the lower edge of the moldboard, whichever side is uppermost. Said share is attached to landside A and bar B by a transverse detachable bolt or pin. Its front part is broadened at f, and suitably notched on the right and left sides to receive the front point of land-side A and the inner end of blade O, whereby the attachment of said point or share is made secure. After being long in Vuse (the wear being almost wholly on the bottom of the share or point) the edge of said share will become dull. I then remove the mold-board and fastening-bolt, reverse the wedgeshaped share so that what was before the bottom becomes the top, replace the parts, and fasten them as before. Y

In plowing the resistance of the soil now tends to Wear the edge sharp, for a time at least, and when it becomes dull again the share is reversed, as before. In this manner the share is automatically sharpened without removing it from the field, or using any additional mechanism, and with only a very trivial interruption of labor.

What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-

The reversible wedge-shaped plow-point F, having oblique grooves f on its top and bottom, and notched sides, the end of the point F being provided with projection g, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
