DISPLAY TABLE TOP I Filed April 29. 1929 2 Sheets-Sheer 2 INVENTOR ATTORNEY P. LOPEZ 1,825,464
Patented Sept. 29, 1931 UNITED STATES PETER LOPEZ, OF 'WEST TAMPA, FLORIDA DISPLAY TAB E o? Application filed April 29,
The object of this invention is to provide a table top adapted to be mounted pon any suitable supporting structure, and adapted for displaying ornamental designs as a pleasing feature in cafe tables and the like, and
also for displaying advertising matter When desired. l
A further object is to provide a table top for the purposes indicated, in which a metallie or wooden element is surmounted by a heavy glass plate and is connected therewith at the edge portions by means of a flanged band or ring, the glass being adapted to receive on the underside thereof as by means of etching and the application of gold leaf, any pleasing design which may be in the form of a border surrounding a space in the transparent member thru Which advertising matter is displayed.
A further object is to arrange the d1splay matter in segmental sections or in any other convenient and practicable manner, permitting removal and replacementof any portion of the complete display, by temporarily loosening the flanged ring or band and slipping out the old advertising elements prior to the insertion of a new segment, strip, or sheet, carrying some other lettering or de- Sl Il.
VVith the foregoing and other objects in View, the invention consists in the novel construction and arrangement of elements disclosed, it being understood that modifications may be made within the scope of the 3 claims without departing from the spirit of the invention.
In the drawings forming part of this application:-
Figure 1 is a plan View of the table top, one section thereof being shown as provided with display matter, it being understood that all of the sections or segmentsmay be similarly provided.
Figure 2 is a view partly in edge elevation and partly in vertical section, a fragment of the supporting standard also being illustrated.
Figure 3 is a fragmentary view in horizontal section on line 3-3 of Figure 2. v
Figure 4 is a plan view of a modified form 1929. Serial no. 358,984.
in which a rectangular top and enclosing frame are employed, the end portions of the frame sections being connected at aplu'rality of points."
Figure 5 is a v1ew of the structure of Figurea, in edge elevation and vertical section.
The table tophere described may be applied to any suitable supporting structure, including asingle central Standard 10, as in Figure 2, or a supporting structure having legs such as ordinary table legs like those in Figure 5. a I
A. wooden or metallicelement or top is designated 11, and to becarr ied by the supporting structure, such as standard 10,-and is to be provided with an upper plain surface for receiving thereupon a heavy glass plate 12 which is adapted to carry on the underside thereof." permanent ornamental matter including designs su'ch'as those shown in the formof a border in Figure 1, and there designated 15. I
A space 16 is surrounded by thisb order, and the transparent table top will render visiblethruthe opening at 16, any. display or advertising matter carried by sheet or strip 17, which may be inserted between the element 11 and theglasstop' 12.
Although in Figure 1 I have shown seg mental sections adaptedt'o receive sheets or strips of corresponding configuration, any form suitable for the purpose may be adopted, as will be observed from the somewhat modified construction of Figure l. The surfaces shown at 18 may be caused to imitate marble, and the border at 15 may be formed by etching on the underside of the glass plate, and by the application of gold leaf, any suitable provision being made for applying the design which will be of a permanent character. The upper side of the plate is of course subject to any cleansing operation necessary in the use of cafe tables and the like. The sheets or strips designated 17 may be displayed, whether of advertising nature or merely ornamental nature, will be placed upon the celluloid elements.
An important feature is the provision of means for retaining the elements 11 and 12 be of celluloid, and the matter to in position, while permitting the separation thereof so that the celluloid strips may be removed and replaced by others.
In the present instance I have shown an outer metallic band or ring designated 20 having upper and lower flanges 21 and 22, this element 20 being adapted for close association with the elements 11 and 12 as a clamping device. The inturned ends shown in Figure 3, at 23, are to be connected by means of bolts or screws 24, which may be threaded into one of said elements or ears 23, in a manner which will be well understood. A cut away portion provides a space at 25 for the elements just referred to and for connecting and disconnecting them.
In Figures 4 and 5 a similar arrangement is carried out, but the spaces shown at 30 are of different form, or of varying form, and the frame or flanged band shown at 20 is constructed in a plurality of sections connected at 23 in substantially the same manner as that disclosed in connection with the first form. Figure 5 shows the structure supported by table legs 38. It is obvious that other forms of tops in addition to circular and rectangular forms or shapes may be adopted.
What is claimed is In a device of the class described, a supporting element having a plain surface, a transparent table top to be mounted above the supporting element, a flanged band sur rounding the edge portions of the supporting element and transparent table top the end portions of the band being inwardly turned, adjustable securing means for retaining the inturned ends, the element first armed being cut away for receiving said ends and securing means, and the top being adapted to receive display matter on the underside thereof, and detachable display sheets for insertion between the supporting element and transparent top.
In testimony whereof I afiix my signature.
PETER LOPEZ.
