The present invention relates to a frame for tents and the like and has for its prime object to provide a collapsible structure which may be easily and quickly raised.
i. A very important object of the invention resides in the provision of a tent frame of this nature which is exceedingly simple in construction, inexpensive to manufacture, strong and durable, yeasy to manipulate,
:e thoroughlyeiiicient and reliable in use, and otherwise well adapted to the purpose for which it is designed.
With the above and numerous other objects in view as will appear as the descrip- L, tion proceeds, the invention resides in certain novel features yof construction, and in the combination and arrangement of parts as will he hereinafter more fully described and claimed.
.21, In the drawings:
Figure 1 is a vertical section through the detent frame extended,
Figure 2 is a top plan View thereof showing the lhead of the post ink section, 2,-, Figure 3 is a fragmentary sectional view similar to Figure 1 but showing thetent frame collapsed, and
Figure i is a detail kView of the'block VVwith the struts hingedly connected thereto.
Referring to the drawings in detail it will be seen that the numeral 5 denotes a hollow post which is enlarged to provide a head 6 having an exterior annular groove 7 A plurality of elongated ribs 8 are hingedly connected as at 9 with the head 6 and intermediate their ends are connected by cables or iiexible braces 10. l
The ribs are much longer than the post as is vapparent from an inspection of the draw- .m ings. Betweenthe upper ends and centers of the ribs 8 there are hingedly connected thereto as at l1 on their inner sides struts 12. The inner ends of thesestruts 12 are hingedly connected as at 14 with a block 45 or strut support 15 to which is attached a 1929. Serial No. 372,454.
cable 16 passing through the hollow post 5.
`When the block 15 is separated from the lower end of the post as shown in Figure 3 the frame is in a collapsed condition. By pulling on the cable, it will be seen, the block 15 may be drawn up to abut the lower end of the post 5 thus spreading the ribs 8 to an extended position so that they converge upwardly toward each other and when in this position the tent covering may he engaged around or about the ribs 8 and tied at the apex with a cord, rope, or the like cooperating with the groove 7 In this way it will be seen that a tent may be set up very quickly and may be knocked down very quickly and therefore this tent is particularly well adapted for outdoor life where persons are on the move very frequently.
It is thought that the construction, utility, operation, and advantages of this invention will now be quite apparent to those skilled in this art without a more detailed description thereof.
The present embodiment of the invention has been disclosed in considerable detail merely for the purposes of exemplitication since in actual practice it attains the features of invention enumerated as desirable in the statement of the invention and the above description.
It will be apparent that changes in the details of construction, and in the combination and arrangement of parts may be resorted to without departing from the spirit or scope of the invention as hereinafter claimed or sacrificing any of its advantages.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new is:
A tent frame of the class described com- 85 prising a hollow post, a plurality of ribs hingedly engaged with the upper portion of the post and being longer than the post, a plurality of struts hingedly connected with the intermediate portions of the ribs to ex- 90 tend inwardly therefrom, a block to which the inner ends of the struts are hinged7 and Y a cable attached to the block and threaded through the hollow post so that by pulling upon the cable to move the block in abutment with the lower end of the posti, said I* ribs may be extended and by releasing the Vcable said block may be moved away from the bottom end of the post to collapse the ribs.
In testimony whereof I .aix my signature. Y .CHARLES A. BRUST.
