TENT
Filed June 6, 1935 j [Ti l6 2 "WT-2 j M jamue E 7 7 7 T Patented. May 14, 1935 ENT:QFtwEl SamuetE. Jost, Ogden, Utah Application June 6, 1933, seal 1%."6745'11 2 Claims.
My invention relates to tents and has for its object to provide a new andefiicient tent having no center poles and having no poles in anyof the interior space within the tent other than those usedto support each corner of the tent.
A still further object is to provide a tent which may be easily and quickly set up and which when set up Will be more rigid and solid than the usual tent.
A still further object is to provide a tent which will stand when inheavy winds without the usual wear to the top of the tent due to the fact that the top of the tent does not rest upon any ridge poles. p
A still further object is to provide an'adjustable means forstretching the .tent and supporting it so that when the tent is wet the tension may be relieved orwhen the tent is dry the slack may be taken upby thismeans.
A still further object is to provide a tent which eliminates the use or need of guy ropes to hold the tent under normal conditions and when extreme high winds prevail ropes may be used to These objects I accomplish with the device illustrated in the accompanying drawing in which similar numerals and letters of reference indicate like parts throughout the several views and as de scribed in the specification forming a part of this application and pointed out in the appended claims. In the drawing in which I have shown the best and most preferred manner of buildingmy invention,
Figure l is aperspective view of the tent, dotted lines indicating the support thereof.
Figure 2 is a'vertical section of the tent diagonhaving a door B in one side thereof and a window C in any other side desired. The tent A is formed with long side walls D, and sloping roof E, forming a four sided tent with sufiicient head room, due to the long side walls. In each corner of the tent I place the tent poles l, with the poles provided with an extension 2, preferably made of metal, on the bottom end thereof to be driven into the ground and hold the pole and corner of the tent rigid to the ground. The extensions 2 are either fitted into the ends of the poles I or are formed with the top end 211 formed into a ferrule to fit over the end of the poles I and with the upper end of the ferrule formed into a flange by which the extension may be driven into the ground, either by use of a suitable means for driving on the flange or by placing the foot thereon and resting the weight on the flange.
The top ends of the poles 'l are provided each with a notch 3 therein and a loop 4 formed therearound and over the top end of each of the poles I. This notch and loop is to receive a bar 5 in the end of each strut 6. There are four struts and the inner end of each strut is fitted into a socket l. The sockets l are hingedly connected with a cylindrical body 8 by brackets 9 on the cylindrical body 8 and brackets la on the sockets 1. There are four sockets secured radially from the body 8 and each socket carries a corner strut 6. The central support .for the tent is formed of an externally threaded rod IS with the threads cut so that the female or groove I is in the rod l9 and the male thread H is formed within the cylindrical body 8. The lower end of the rod I9 is provided with a bar or handle rod l2 passed diametrically therethrough to provide means for rotation of the rod. The top end of the rod is made of smaller diameter at 3 to pass through the ring l4, which ring is secured in the peak of the roof E of the tent.
Each corner of the tent is provided with metal en to aid in holding the tent rigid and to hold the sides of the tent down and stretched, and each inner corner of the tentis provided with asuitable loop through which the extensions 2 are passed.
Each corner of the roof of the tent may be provided with a ring or loop l1 in which a rope I8 may be secured to hold the tent more rigid during high winds, but in normal weather conditions the ropes are not used, only one rope and loop being shown in the drawing Figure 1.
The struts are used to stretch the roof of-the tent and the eaves of the tent may be reinforced by suitable ropes or other strengthening means to keep the tent from ripping when stretched.
Having thus described my inventionI desire to secure by Letters Patent and claim:
1. In a. tent of the class described, the combination of a walled tent, poles carried in each corner thereof, having the top end carrying a loop and with a peg on the bottom; a ring carried in the apex of'the roof; a central threaded rod having the top end extended through said ring; a threaded body to be raised or lowered by rotation of said rod; sockets pivotally secured to the outside of said body; removable struts severally carried in said sockets, each strut having a bar in the end thereof to extend out through an associated corner of the tent and through the loop in the top of a corner pole; and corner rings severally secured in the bottom corners oi the sides ttbe ten th o h ch pegs may be .driv en to secure the corners of the tent.
2. In a stretching support for tents, the comiai,- nation of a central rod having the top end made of smaller diameter and having threads formed along the larger body of the rod; internally threaded cylindrical body carried on said rod with the threads of each meshing; a handle carried through the bottom end of the central rod by which it may be rotated; a radially extended loop bracket formed on each of four sides of said cylindrical body; loops severally engaging said brackets; sockets severally formed integral with the last mentioned loops by which the sockets are pivotally secured to the cylindrical body; removable struts to fit severally into said sockets with the ends of the struts each garryipg 9. bar; and orner po e e c having a st k 9 1 t eend thereof and a notch in the top end thereof with a loop over said notch, said notches and loops severally to receive the bars in the ends of the struts, said bars to extend therethrough and therebeypnd, substantially as described.
