'IMPROVEMENT IN eABv-JUMPERs Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 182,299, dated February 2l, 1876.

To all whom t may concern Be it known that I, NELSON H. BROWN, of Milford, in the county ot' Hillsborough and State of New Hampshire, have invented a new and valuable Improvement in Baby'Jumpers; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the construction and operation of' the same, reference being had to the annexed drawings, making a part of this specification, and to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon.

Figure l ofthe drawings is a representation of my invention. Fig. 2 is a sectional view of the sleeve.

This invention relates to that class of babyjumpers iu which the child is suspended from a device attached to the wall or ceiling of a room, and it consists in the means of connecting the crane to the pivoted sleeve, and in the combination therewith of the straps, cross-bar, and harness for supporting the child, as hereinafter more fully described and pointed out in the claims.

In the accompanying drawings, A represents' a broken section ot' a door, wall, or other suitable base, to which is secured, by screws or bolts, a plate composed of sections B B, formed with flanges a a, to which is pivoted a sleeve, C. lhe sleeve Chas a tapering opening or mortise, b, tor the reception ot' one end Vof an arm or crane, D, said crane having' its inner or larger end tapering in form to correspond with the mortise b. A perfectly rigid connection is thereby made be tween the sleeve and crane, without the necessity of using nails, screws, or other similar fastenings, heretofore used.

The crane D has secured to its smaller end a ring or staple, o, for attaching` a strap, d, said strap having suitable buckles to admit ofthe adjustment of the heightof the jumper by shortening or lengthening the strap.

The lower end of the strap (l passes through an opening', e, in a cross-hanf, by which it is suspended. The cross-Darf has opened ends g, for connecting the bands lL ot' the harness E, and allowing their ready removal.

The harness E is composed of cloth or other soft and flexible material, and is formed with side flaps i' and end flap j, the flapsi passing around the body, and the iiap j between the lower limbs, the several iiaps being se- 'cured in place around the child by buttons or other suitable fastenings.

The two plates B B admit oi' the ready attachment of the sleeve C, the lower plate being irst secured in place, and the lower end l ofthe sleeve is inserted within the ange. The upper plate, with its flange a, is then placed over the upper end ot' the sleeve, and secured in place, thereby forming bearings for the ends, and holding the sleeve securely in place.

The crane may be now inserted through the tapering mortise in the sleeve, and the harness E, with its cross-bar f, secured to the end of the crane by the strap d.

`This arrangement and manner of connecting the several parts makes a much more compact device, each piece being readily separated from the other when desired for transportation, or to be laid away when not re quired to be used.

Having now fully described my invention, what I claim as new, Lett-ers Patent, is-

1. In a babyg'umper, the plates B B, having danges a a., and the pivoted sleeve C with tapering mortise b, in combination with the tapering crane D, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
