NITE d'rri'rns HERMAN THEODORE DETER'I,
OF FAR-IBAULT, MINNESOTA.
HORSE-COLLAR.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 300,229, dated June 10, 1884.
Appiication filed April Q, 1884.
To all whom it 11mg concern:
Be it known that I, HERMAN T. DETERT, of Faribault, in the county ofRice and State of Minnesota, have invented a new and Im-' proved HorseOollar, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
This invention relates to an adjustable horsecollar and to metallic attachments forming flanges for the hames, and means for spread ing and contracting the collar at the bottom.
Reference is to be-had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification, in which similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the figures.
Figure 1 is a front sectional elevation of a horse-collar made in accordance with my invention. Fig. 2 is a perspective view of one of the metallic flanges and sleeve attachments, and Fig. 3 shows the metallic connecting and adjusting section separate from the pads of the collar.
A A represent the main pads of the collar.
B B represent the metallic attachments,
which are connected to the pads A A, prefer-' ably, by the rivets a a; and 0 represents the connecting and adjusting metallic section for connecting and for enlarging and contracting the lower separated ends of, the main pads A A. The metallic attachments B B are reverse duplicates of each other, and are curved like the hames of a harness, and are each formed with the flange I), under which the hames tit, and at their lower ends they are each formed with a sleeve, 0, to receive the ends (I (Z of the connection-section C, and these sleeves 0 have each an orifice, e, to receive a pin, f, which, after entering one side of the sleeve, passes through one of the holes 99, made in the con necting-section O: The connectingsection G (No model.)
is bent or curved to shape the collar at the 40 bottom, and the ends (I dof the section have each several holes 9, so that by removing the pins f the main pads of the collar may be spread or contracted at the bottom, to increase or diminish the size of the collar to suit the neck of the horse on which the collar is to be used. By this means it will be seen that a perfect fit of the collar-to the horse may be easily effected, and that the flanges I) serve always to hold the hames of the harness in the proper position upon the collar. Besides, the collar is at the same time cheap, durable, and strong. 1
. I am aware that it is not new to connect the lower ends of a horse-collar adjustably by 55 means of two plates provided with sleeves, a curved perforated section fitting within said sleeves, and pins for securing said parts together; also, that it is not new to provide a horse-collar with plates hinged together at the lower end and provided with lugs for the hames, which project through the collar within which said plates are secured; and I do not claim, broadly, such construction as of my invention.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by'Letters Patcnt As an improved article of manufacture, a horse-collar provided with the metallic attachments B, formed with the hame-flanges b and sleeves c, as shown, the section 0, curved and perforated, and pins f for connecting and adjusting said section 0, substantially as set forth.
HERMAN THEODORE DETERT.
