/ 1o p y- A further object is to provide adjustable mechanism for regulating the supply of adhesive material and insuring the material being delivered at the proper place on the dea livery wheel.
A still further object is to provide a machine of simple and economical construction which may be attached to any cigarette making machine and which will take its power 20 from that machine.
The invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which:

Referring to the drawings (Figure 5), a reservoir having inclined front and rear walls 1 and 2 contains an adhesive liquid 3. Side walls 4 and 5 are provided with bearings 6 and 7 supporting a shaft 8. A cylinder 9 carried on the shaft 8 is partly immersed in the adhesive liquid. The shaft 8 is extended beyond the wall 5 and terminates in a bevel gear which meshes with a similar gear 14 carried by a shaft 11 which is journaled in a bearing 12. The bearing 12 is supported on i 50 a base 13. The outer end of the shaft 11 carder 9 projects to engage a conveyor 17 which ries a spur gear adapted to be connected with any source of power.
The front wall 1 is provided withanopening 16 through which a portion of the cylinreceives the adhesive liquid and delivers it to the paper in any well known manner. Guides 18 and 19 integral with the walls 4 and '5 support a plate 20' which is free for sliding move ment within the saidguides. The plate 20 has aportion 21. at right angles thereto and said portionis provided with an opening 22 adapted to engage a bolt 22'. A thumb screw 23 is threaded on the bolt and secures the plate 20 in position.
Carried on the face of the plate 20 are scrapers 24 and 25' secured to the said plate by bolts 26 and 27 which pass through slots 28 and 29, thereby allowing a horizontal adjustment of the scrapers. .Said scrapers 2 land 25 extend beyond the plate 20 and embrace the sides of the revolving cylinder}? to remove any adhesiveliquid from said sides. An adjustable mechanism to regulate the amount of adhesive material carried by. the periphery of the cylinder is supported upon the plate 20 between the scrapers" 24 and 25. A bracket is formed with an upstanding part 30 and a flat part 31, said fiat part having an elongated slot 32 and secured to the-. plate 20 by a bolt 33. The lower face 84 of the upstanding part is concave to .fit the periphery of the cylinder and'has a groove 35 running longitudinally therethrough. A bolt 36 threaded into the upstanding part" controlled by athumb-screw 37 and a lock wing nut 39 bears against a stem 38 which projects into the groove 35-. By manipulatio'n ofthe thumb-screw, the stem is projected more or less into the groove and: the amount of adhesive liquid not only regulated but positioned on the periphery of the cylinder, as shown at 450. A bolt 41 is threaded into the plate 21 and bears against the end of the flat part 31 of the bracket to provide for longitudinal adjustment of the same.- The bolt carries a locking nut 42. A cover 43 hingedly secured to the walls 4 and- 5 carries a handle 44 and. provides easy access to the mechanism. 1
Carried on the interior face of the front wall 1 at each side of the cylinder 9 are auxiliary scrapers 45 and 46 having transverse slots 47 and 48 receiving bolts 49 and 50. These scrapers 45 and 46 are transversely adjustable and perform the same function as the aforementioned scrapers 24 and 25 and are provided as an additional safeguard to prevent the adhesive from being carried by the sides of the cylinder 9.
The machine is adapted to be run by any source of power through the spur gear to thereby turn the cylinder 9 which revolves partly immersed in the reservoir containing the adhesive liquid 3. The liquid adheres to the cylinder and is carried in the direction of the arrow (Figure 5). The scrapers 24 and 25 are adjusted by means of the slots and bolts to contact the edges of the cylinder and remove any liquid carried by them. The concave face of the bracket removes the liquid from the periphery of the cylinder except a width equal to that of the groove 35. A stem 38 is adjusted to regulate the depth of the liquid passing through the groove and the remaining liquid (shown at 40) is carried by the cylinder through the opening 16 in the wall 1 and. deposited on 'a conveyor 17 which engages the periphery of the cylinder.
It is, therefore, readily seen that the invention provides a mechanism of simple con struction that insures a proper delivery of the correct amount of adhesive liquid to the paper used to roll cut tobacco in the manufacture of cigarettes.
What is claimed to be new is:
1. A mechanism for supplying an adhesive to cigarette paper during the manufacture of cigarettes. comprising a reservoir containing an adhesive. a cylinder mounted for rotation partly immersed in the adhesive, means for turning the cylinder. adjustable means for cleaning the sides of the cyl nder of the adhesive. a plate mounted for sliding movement between the side walls of the reservoir. a bracket ad iustablv mounted on the plate. the face of said bracket having a longitudinal groove therein. the said face contacting with the peri hery of the cylinder and cleaning said periphery of the adhesive except the small amount passing through the groove, means for adiusting the de th of the groove, and a conveyor to receive the adhesive from the cylinder.
2. A mechanism for supplying an adhesive to cigarette paper during the manufacture of cigarettes. comprising a reservoir containing an adhesive. a cylinder mounted for rotati on partly immersed in the adhesive, means for turning the cylinder. adjustable means for cleaning the sides of the cylinder of the adhesive, a plate mounted for sliding movement between the side walls of the reservoir,
