INVENTOR 50ML@ H Jhvzaon/ ATTORNEYS utllllllll |||||J WITNEssEs Patented Sept. 1, 1931 UNET STATES lzrsoa @narrow-ICE LOUIS v. JOHNSON, or nnoonnyn, NEW Yom;
POCKET rrwrncronA v Application filed Augustlf,v 19.37404.k SerialNm 476,412;y f l' CII will prevent accidental or vunauthorized re-,
moval of the contents of the pocket.`
Another object of the invention is to provide a pocket structure which presents a protecting member positioned to leave the pocket normally open while covering the pocket-r book or other articles in the pocket in such a 5 readily remove the pocket-book or other contents. e Y
A further object of the invention more specifically is to provide a protector for '3 pockets wherein a flap is arranged eXteriorly of the pocket and preferably merginginto a depending sheet adapted to extend to the bottom of the pocket and to cover the pocketbook or other articles in the pocket so that when a hand is placed inthe pocket it will not come in contact with the pocket-book or other contents of the pocket.
Inthe accompanying drawings- Figure l is a rear view of a ligure wearing a pair of pants with the rear o r hip pocket constructed Laccording to the 'present inven-. tion;
Figure 2 is an enlarged'fragmentary view of thepocket showing the parts disclosedk in Figure l, certain of the parts being broken away for better illustrating` the construction;
Figure 3 is a view similar to Figure 2 but showing the protecting sheet arranged err-` teriorly;
Figure 4 is an enlarged fragmentary sectional view through Figure l on the line 4 4;
Figure 5 is an enlarged fragmentary sectional view through Figure 2 on the line 5 5;
e Figure 6 is an enlarged fragmentary sectional view through Figure 3 on the line 6-6.
Referring to the accompanying drawings by numerals, l indicates the pocket which may be of any desired structure, and 2 a flap way that an unauthorized person cannotv secured ytothe-outer edge of the lpocket'and y positioned to appear toclose'the opening 3. The'flap2-is provided with the usual buttonholeA 4 coactingV with the usual button 5 secured to the cloth 'ofthe trousers. If the `flap 2 is unfastened from the button 5 access to fthe pocket 'cannot be` securedland Vconsequent-lya. thief or unauthorized person attempting to place a hand in the pocket forcing same. upwardly beneath the flap 2 will be disappointed as the hand will merely strike against the seam 7 which secures the various parts to the trousers 6.
A reinforcing member 8 is secured in place by stitching and in addition a sheet 9 is secured in place by stitching 7, said sheet being preferablydoubled and. arranged so .i
that it merges into the Hap 2 as an integral structure.
yIt'will be noted that the protecting sheet 9 is entirely independent of the pocket l eX- cept for its connection by thestitching 7.
This will be evident from Figures 3 and 6 where the sheet is shown positioned exteriorly of the pocket. In use the Vprotecting sheet 9 is never in this position but is always in the position shown in Figures 2 and 4. l/Vhen placing an article such as a pocket-book lO in the pocket it may be necessary to remove the sheet 9 toa position shown in Figure 3, after'which thepocket-book or other article may be inserted and then the protecting sheet is'inserted tothe position shown in Figure 4. It will be noted that the protecting sheet 9 extends to a point adjacent the bottom of the pocket l so that when an authorized or un authorized hand is placed through the opening 3 it will not come in contact with the contents of the pocket, and such contents cannot be removed until the sheet 9 has first been removed. This will prevent pickpockets or other unlawful persons from'removing articles from a pocket.
YWhen the pocket is completed it will appear as shown in Figure l and will thereby. give'the appearance of the usual pocket having a :flap covering the opening. However,
as shown in Figure 4, the flap 2 does not cover The protecting member or sheet 9 is adapted however to fully cover any article in the pocket and to prevent its removal until the protecting sheet has been first removed. In
'5 this Way an unauthorized person cannot remove a pocketbook or other article from the pocket without theowner of the pocket becoming awareof his actions.
What I claim is z- 10 A safety pocket including a pocket structure having an opening at the top, means for securing the pocket structure to a garment, a sheethaving a portion looped over the outer partof the pocket structure and 15 garment to form a Hap externally of the pocket Structure, and a loose portion extending into the pocketto a point near the bottom to present a, protecting sheet, raid sli eet being coextensive with the interior of the pocket 2Q and adapted to coveran article .carried by the pocket. f
Signed at Brooklyn, in the county of Kings and State of New York, this 18th day of August, 1930.
