Description

W. WILSON.
DOOR-BUTTON. l No.182,141, Patented Sept-12,1876.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
WILLIAM WILSON, OE PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA.`
IMPROVEMENT IN DOOR-BUTTONS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 182,141, dated September 12, 1876; application filed July 27,1876.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, WILLIAM WILSON, of Philadelphia, in the county of Philadelphia and State ot' Pennsylvania, have invented a new and useful DoorButton, of which the following is a specification:
My invention is an improvement in the class of door or cupboard buttons, which are attached to the door-jamb by a wood-screw, which constitutes their pivot; and my improvement consists in giving the rear or effect'- ive surface of the bOttOn a helical contour, so that, as the button is rotated, it is caused to ind with gradually-increasing stress upon the oor. l i
ln the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a rear viewof a door-button embodying my invention. Fig. 2 represents the saine in pO- sition. Fig. 3 shows the botton and contigu- Ous portion ofjamb by section in plane Of the v buttons axis. Fig. 4 is an edge view of the button.
A may represent any door, and B its jamb,
' its face recessed, b, to fit and receive the rear parts ofthe button. My button, C, has, in the plane of its rotation, the form of a circular segment somewhat in excess of a semicircle.
The central portion ofthe button consists of a hub, E, whose rear surface is in the plane of desired rotation, and which is traversed by the axial orifice E for a wood-screw, lE.
That part, c, of the rear surface of my `button surrounding the hub is helical or screwformed, as shown.
D Dl is a lug to enable the easy Operation of the button. y
' ln fastening the door the button is turned in direction of the arrow, and, as It is advanced, ooperates to bind the door with increasing et'- fectiveness until brought Wholly flush withv WILLIAM WILSON.
