- This invention is directed to an improved mechanism for use in connection with the application of fastening devices along the edge of strip material, as for example in connection with the stapling or splicing machines used in belt lacing, andis particularly well adapted for use in connection with the printing blanket construction employed in connection with bag making machinery as disclosed in my co-pending application Serial No. 450,674, filed May 8, 1930, wherein the printing blanket is made in sections joined by staples or loops applied to the adjacent edges of the sections of the blanket to be joined or spliced, the staples receiving a pin or pintle by which the staples or loops in the edge of one section of the blanket are removably united to the staples or loops in the adjacent edge of the other section of the blanket.

This invention is directed to an improved mechanism for use in connection with the application of fastening devices along the edge of strip material, as for example in connection with the stapling or splicing machines used in belt lacing, andis particularly well adapted for use in connection with the printing blanket construction employed in connection with bag making machinery as disclosed in my co-pending application Serial No. 450,674, filed May 8, 1930, wherein the printing blanket is made in sections joined by staples or loops applied to the adjacent edges of the sections of the blanket to be joined or spliced, the staples receiving a pin or pintle by which the staples or loops in the edge of one section of the blanket are removably united to the staples or loops in the adjacent edge of the other section of the blanket.
No'novelty is alleged for the stapling machine per se illustrated in the present application. These machines, however, are diflicult to manipulate so that the staples or loops may be properly applied to the edges of the material to be joined.
An object of the present invention is the provision of means whereby accuracy in application of the staples 'or loops is assured.

Inasmuch as the supporting surface 5 is inclined toward the machine 6, it will be seen that if the material 14 is placed upon this sup-" port and pushed forwardly until the edge thereof engages the staple holder 15 of the machine the edge ofv the material will lie truly parallel to the stapling machine, and that when the machine is operated to apply the staples or loops l6, proper application of these fastening devices is assured.
