Wm ma 1 ATTORNEYS y Patented Aug. 25, 1931 AUNITED STATES PATENT 01u-ICEv yDITNDAS SIMPSON, OF LONDON, ENGLAND ELECTROTHERAPEUT'IC HVAIRBRUSH Application flled January 21, 1931, Serial No. 519,305, and in. Great Britain October 28, 1929.
The present invention relates to an improved hair brush of the type in which the circuit of a dry cell is'complete whenever the current only. The invention does not `in-A clude any construction in which currents induced by the aid of an interrupter are ernployed.
`The invention is more particularly described with reference to the accompanying drawings in which Figure 1 is a sectional elevation of one form of construction.
Figure 2 is atop plan view.
support removed from the brush holder.
A moderately thick strip or piece of sheet f rubber or the like iexible and non-'conducting material 1 has a number of metallic bristles 2 threaded into it, these bristles preferably having Hat pin heads 3 adapted to make con tact in two separate groups with plates 4,v 5,
each having springs `G, 7, respectively adapt- V ed to form contact plates with contact strips y 8, 9, respectively on a dry cell 10 held within a pocket 11 inthe hollow back of the brush 12 of non-conducting material, this dry cell being held in position byl a sliding cover 13.
The sheet of rubber 1 ishe'ld at its rim the flange on the brush body 12. f
The two sets of bristles 3 are insulated from one another by a cover strip or piece 14. It will be seen that the springs 6,7, serve to press the bristles outwards, so that the brush is elastic in use. Further, that there is no flow of current through the dry cell until contactfis made through the points of the bristles in the two separate groups by contact with the human head or hair.
Figurel 3`is a top plan view of the bristle y I declare that what I claim is An velectro-therapeutic hair brush comprising in combination a nonconductive body portion having a hollow back, said back havinga depending flange provided with an inwardly projecting portion forming a recess at its peripheral edge, an arched sheet of rubberheld within said recess and supporting a series of metallic bristles mounted therein with retaining heads protruding inwardly. therethrough, a pair of arched contact plates adapted to contact with the heads of the bristles and divide Vthem into two groups, a detachable battery mounted within the hollow or the back, and a pairkof resilient conductive connecting devices between the separate plates and the battery, said devices also serving for resiliently opposing the elastic inward movement of the bristles and their supports. n v
In witness whereof, I have hereunto signed my name this 3 day of January, 1931.
ALBERT ADOLPH SIGMUND BAKKER.
