Mow fldw Patented Aug. 25, 1931 UNITED STATES? PATENT OFFICE rooxn'r COMB Application filed September 8, 1930. Serial No. 480,553.
The present invention relates to an improved pocket comb of the type in which metal teeth insulated from one another are in circuit with an electric battery carried in "I the handle, the circuit being completed through the scalpor skin of the user.
According to the present invention, sets of teeth having a sinuous shape are mounted on bars moulded into a back which also serves as a handle of a phenol condensation product.
The invention is more particularly described with reference to the accompanying drawings in which Figure 1 is a sectional. end view on the line AA of Figure 4 of a comb according to the present invention.
Figure 2 is a corresponding sectional elevation. I r I Figure 3 is asection on the line BB of Figure 2. r v V Figure 4 is an outside view. I r
The comb consists of a plurality of prongs 1 bent into sinuous shape inorder to impart a wave to the hair of the user. These teeth are mounted in two grooves upon bars 2, 3, and insulated from one another by being incast or inmoulded into a handle or comb back 4 of ebonite or a phenol condensationproduct. This handle is hollow to receive an electric an battery 5 having contacts 6, 7, at its ends en a in with the ends of com ress ion 5 rin s g D b t i 8, 9, the opposite ends of which are out-turned to form a brush 11 extending through a slot in the end of the casing 4, and adapted to each contact with one end of one of the bars 2, 3,
to complete an electric circuit through the prongs of one bar'2 through the spring 9, battery 5, spring 8 and the other bar 3.
The ends 11 of the springs 8, 9 are maintained in the slots by means of the end caps 12 and 13, detachably screwed on to the hollow handle 3 to allow renewal of the battery 5.
I declare that what I claim is 1. A comb comprising in combination a comb bars each having groups of prongs mounted thereon, and moulded into said insulating material, a detachable battery within said body, compression springs engaging contacts at each end of said battery, extension hollow body of insulated material, a pair of parts on the end of each spring each adapted to engage one end of one bar.
2. A comb comprising in combination a hollow body of insulated material, a pair of comb bars each having groups of prongs mounted thereon, and moulded into said insulating material, a detachable battery within said body, compression springs engaging contacts at each end of said battery, extension parts on the end of each sprin each adapted 60 to engage one end of rl' locking caps closing each end of said hollow body.
3. A comb confi rubination a hollow bodv of insulated material, a pair of comb bars each having groups of sinuous 65 prongs mounted thereon, and moulded into said insulating material, a detachable bat tery within said body, compression springs engaging contacts at each end of said battery, extension parts on the end of each spring each adapted to engage one end of one bar.
In witness whereof, I have hereunto signed my name this 28 day of August, 1930.
, ALBERT ADOLPH SIGMUND BARKER.
