IMPROVEMENT IN EGG-BEATERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 181,903, dated September 5, 1876; application filed March 27, 1876.
To all whom it may concern: 4
Be it known that we, ALONZO T. BOON and LEDYARD OOLBURN, of Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Egg- Beaters; and we do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
Figure l is a vertical section of our improved egg-bea-ter, and Fig. 2 a transverse section of the same.
Like letters in both figures of the drawings indicate like parts.
This invention relates to an egg-beater having a perforated ogee-shaped dasher, corresponding with the shape of the bottom of the vessel, and provided with a packing-rim, so as to give an increased agitation to the yolk of the egg, and thus facilitate the operation of reducing it to a light fluid condition.
A is the vessel, the lower part A of which is provided with the ogee-shaped bottom a, and attached to the base I). Bis the perforated dasher, of an ogee shape, corresponding with the shape of the bottom a, and providedwith the packing-rim c. O is the thimble placed between and attached to the cover at and bail e. The stem D of the dasher passes through and works in the thimble, which gives the dasher a steady central hearing at the top of the vessel, thus causing it. to work easily therein. The thimble is provided with a funnel, f, for securing any overflow of the material that may be forced out by the air or motion of the dasher.
The operation of the dasher is obvious. The contents of the eggs being placed in the vessel, the undulating or ogee form of the dasher provided with the packing-rim, causes a greatly-increased agitation of the fluid. The packing-rim causing the dasher to work smoothly, and also preventing the fluid from working up between the dasher and the sides of the vessel when the dasher is pressed down toward the bottom, thus necessarily forcing all the fluid through the perforations, it is then forced back through the same by the upward motion of the dasher, thus facilitating the operation of reducing the fluid to the required condition. y
We are aware that a perforated conicalshaped dasher has been used, but the object and advantage of making the dasher of an ogee shape is to present an irregular line of surface, in order to break the yolk up in a more effectual manner, which, in connection with the packing-rim to prevent the yolk from working up between the edge of the dasher and the walls of the vessel, will tend to reduce the yolk to the required condition in a comparatively shorter time" than can be accomplished by a conical-shaped dasher presenting a continuous regular line of surface.
Having thus fully described our invention, what we claim therein as new, and desire to secure byLetters Patent, is
1. The dasher of an egg-beater, having a rigid packing-rim, a, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
2. The perforated 'ogee-shaped dasher B, having its edge turned up to form the packing-rim c, in combination with the ogee-shaped bottom a, substantially as shown and set forth.
In testimony that we claim the foregoing as our own invention we affix our signatures in presence of two witnesses.
