LABEL RETAINING DEVICE Filed A'ug. 2, 1929 INVENTOR dlfiorovic ka BY ATTORNEY Patented Aug. 4, 1931 UNITED STATES JOHN BOROVICKA, OF HUBBARD WOODS, ILLINOIS LABEL RETAINING DEVICE Application filed August 2, 1929. Serial No. 382,977.
My invention relates to improvements in label-retaining devices, and it consists in the combinations, constructions, and arrange ments herein described and claimed.
An object of my invention is to provide a label-retaining device which is especially adapted to be used by florists to indicate the name and price of the flower planted.
A further object of my invention is to provide a device of the type described which is simple in construction, and the frame of which is so formed that it completely surrounds the members for receiving the cards.
A further object of my invention is to provide a device of the type described which has novel means for receiving the cards and completely protecting the cards against any destruction.
Other objects and advantages will appear in the following specification, and the novel features of the invention will be particularly pointed out in the appended claims.
My invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawings, forming part of this application, in which Figure 1 is a front elevation of my device,
Figure 2 is a front elevation of the device in open position, and
Figure 3 is a section along the line 33 of Figure 1.
In carrying out my invention, I provide a frame 1 which is formed of a single piece of wire having its ends rigidly secured together at 2 and tapering outwardly at 3 so as to provide a retaining member 4L. The portions of the wire at the upper end are bent outwardly so as to form a receiving portion 5 which is substantially rectangular in general contour. The portions of the wire between the receiving member 5 and the retaining member 4: may be rigidly secured to gether at 6 by any desired means such as soldering or brazing.
A stationary card-receiving member 7 is disposed within the receiving member 5 and has projections 8 and 9 which are bent about the upper and lower ends, respectively, of the receiving member 5. Receiving flanges 10 are arranged to receive a card 11 having a place indicated thereupon for the name of the flower. A lip 12 is stamped out to hold the card 11 against displacement A movable card-receiving member 13 has a projection 14: which is bent around the upper end of the receiving member 5 between the projections 8. In this manner the movable member 13 is hingedly secured to the receiving member 5. Resilient catch portions 15 are inte ral with the movable member 13 adjacent a handle portion 16. Card-retaining flanges 17 are integral with the movable member 13 and are arranged to receive a card 18, which is adapted to be held against displacement by means of a stamped-out lip 19.
The frame 1 may be placed in the ground as indicated in Figure 1 so that the retaining member 4 is beneath the surface 20 of the ground. The frame of course is disposed adjacent the planted flower or seed and the name of the flower is indicated upon the card 11 while the price of the flower is indicated upon the card 18. At any time desired the florist may move the member 13 into open position by the aid of the handle 16 and learn the name and price of the flower or the like.
The movable member 13 when in closed position is held by the gripping engagement of the members 15 with the frame 1 and has its edges concealed by the receiving member 5. In this manner the cards are held against destruction which might be caused by any means, such as water. It should be understood that the frame 1 may be formed of any rust-proof material, and, if so desired, may be painted. Furthermore, the members 7 and 13 are also formed of rust-proof material.
I claim:
1. A label-retaining device comprising a looped supporting frame, and a pair of members carried by the frame, each of said members having means for retaining a label, one of said members being movably mounted on theframe for providing access to the labels.
2. A label-retaining device comprising a looped supporting frame, and a pair of members carried by the frame, each of said members being formed for retaining a label, one of said members being movably mounted on the frame for providing access to the labels, said movable member having an end provided with means for being latched with the frame.
3. A label-retaining device comprising a looped frame, and a pair of members carried by the frame, each of said members being provided with means for retaining a label, one of said members being provided with means for being fixedly connected with the frame, the other of said members being movably mounted on the frame for providing access to the labels.
4. A label-retaining device comprising a looped frame having extended supporting portions, a pair of label retaining members carried by the frame, each of said retaining members being provided with means for retaining a label, one of said retaining members being provided with means for being fixedly connected with the frame, the other of said retaining members being movably mounted on the frame for providing access to the labels, and means carried by an end of the movable retaining member for being latched with the supporting portions whereby said retaining member may be held in closed position.
5. A label-retaining device comprising a. rod member bent for forming a looped frame having extended port-ions for supporting the frame, and a pair of label-retaining members carried by said frame, one of said retaining members being formed for being fixedly mounted on the frame, the other of said retaining members being formed for being hingedly mounted on the frame, said retaining members being formed for retaining labels, said formations being disposed on the inner sides of the retaining members whereby the labels may be encased when said hinged retaining member is moved into juxtaposition with the fixed member.
6. A label-retaining device comprising a rod member bent for forming a looped frame having a soil penetrating end for supporting the frame, a pair of label-retaining members carried by said loop, one of said retaining members being provided with means for being fixedly mounted on the loop, the other of said retaining members being hingedly mounted on the loop, said retaining members I beingprovided with means for receiving and retaining labels, said label receiving and retaining means being disposed on the inner sides of the retaining members whereby the labels may be encased when said hinged retaining member is moved into juxtaposition with the fixed member, and means carried by the hinged retaining member for engage ment with the frame whereby said hinged retaining member maybe held in closed position.
Signed at Winnetka, 111., in the county of Cook and State of Illinois this 27th day of July A. D. 1929.
