This invention relates to improvements in heel protectors and has particular reference to a protector adapted to be worn over a shoe for the purpose of protecting the same from abrasion, incident to driving an automobile.

The principal object of this invention is to produce a. neat appearing heel protector which may be worn over any shoe and one which Will not present an unsightly appearance, even if not removed after completing the driving operation.

Another object is to produce a heel protector which will accommodate itself to va- 1 rious shapes of shoes.

A further object is to produce a device of this character which is economical to manufacture. 7

In the driving of an automobile the heel of the shoe often contacts the floor boards with the result that the shoe is badly marred and this is partly true in womens shoes, which are made of soft leather and often leather having a high polish such as patent leather,

r which is easily scratched.

Applicant is aware of the fact that heel protectors have been employed for the purpose of protecting the wearer s shoes. This type of protector however, is usually unsightly and not fit the various shapes of shoes. Applicant has therefore devised a heel protector adapted to be worn upon the shoe as illustrated in Figure 1.

In the accompanying drawings wherein for the purpose of illustration is shown a pre ferred embodiment of my invention, the numeral 5 designates the foot of a person driving an automobile and the numeral 6 a shoe and the numeral 7 the floor boards of the car. At 8 I have shown an accelerator peddle, 66) against which the ball of the shoe contacts when the foot is in position, illustrated in Figure 1. It will be noted that the heel of the shoe would contact the floor boards 7, were it not for the fact that my protector keeps the shoe away therefrom. My protector consists of two properly shaped leather portions 9 and 11, which are sewed together along the line 12, a reinforcing strip 18 is sewed and other-wise secured to the portions 7 9 and 11 as shown at 14 and 16. This reinforcing strip forms a pocket 17 within which a flexible resilient stay 18 is positioned. At 19 I have shown an elastic web connecting the portion 9 and 11 at a point adjacent their lower extremities. The structure thus formed may he slipped over the heel portion of the shoe, by inserting the heel proper onto the webbing 19 as illustrated in Figure 1. This causes the side portions 9 and 11 to lie upon so each side of the heel of the shoe while the stay 18 causes the device as a whole to snugly fit the rear of the shoe and to follow the contour thereof.

It is proposed to fashion my device out of 8 5 leather which will correspond to the leather of the shoe of the wearer, the result being that when in use the wearer may alight from the car without removing the protector and without having the same visible, but on the other 9o hand it permits the wearer to remove the protector when desired, thereby leaving the shoe in perfect condition.

It will thus be seen that my device accomplishes all the objects above set forth.

It is to be understood that the form of my invention herewith shown and described is to be taken as a preferred example of the same and that various changes relative to the ma terial, size, shape and arrangement of parts may be resorted to Without departing from the spirit of the invention or the scope of the subjoined claim.

Having thus described my invention, I claim r A heel protector comprising a pair of side portions stitched one to the other, a reinforcing strip secured to said side portions along its margin in such a manner as to form a pocket between said reinforcing strip and said side portions, a flexible reinforcing stay positioned Within said pocket, and a resilient Web secured to said side portions at a point adjacent one end thereof.
