PROTECTOR FOR SHOES.
Application filed February 7, 1920. Serial No. 356,865.
To all whom t may concern.'
Be it known that we, EvnRn'r M. BUSH and PHILIP BROWN, citizens of the United States, residing at Haverstraw, in the county of Rockland and State of New York, have invented new and useful improvements in Protectors for Shoes, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to protector for shoes and the like.
Some of the objects of the invention are: to produce an article of the character mentioned which may be put on shoes or the like to be worn therewith to protect the same from becoming marred, scratched or otherwise mutilated or torn on special occasions, as for instance, a dance-by dancing couples; to produce an inexpensive article of this character which may be quickly and effectively applied to a shoe or dancing pump; to produce an article whose parts are elastic so that where dancing pumps are worn, the article not only serves as a protector, but serves as well to hold the pump upon the foot of the wearer; to produce an article which embodies a protective cover member and heel grip member, which members are connected together by elastic means, so that the article as a whole may be readily applied to the shoe or the like so that the protective cover member may readily conform itself to the varying shapes and contours of various shoes or the like; to produce articles of this character in different colors so as to match different colored shoes or the like, thus obviating unsightly appearances which would be the result were the articles to be made of but one color. lilith these and other objects in view the invention resides in the particular provision and construction of parts more fully described in the following specification and illustrated in the accompanying draw* ing, in which Figure l is an elevation showing the present invention applied.
Figure 2 is a sectional view of the article as applied, and
Figure 3 is a detached perspective view of the complete device.
Referring now to the drawing especially with reference to Figure 3, it will be seen that as a new article of manufacture, the article consists of a protective member l0, a heel grip member ll and connecting members l2 which connect the cover member l0 with the grip member il. rlhese several parts each possess the proper degree of elasticity. The cover member 10 has formed therewith a bead or roll i3 the purpose of which will appear.
In use the protective cover member l() is placed over that part of the shoe or the like which is most susceptible to become marred, scratched or otherwise mutilated, namely the tip thereof. inasmuch as this protective cover member 10 possesses the quality of elasticity the same will readily conform to the shape of the tip to which it is applied. The connecting members l2, it will be noted cross each other and in this condition they are brought with the point of intersection of these members at the shank of the shoe and the grip member is brought well up on the heel either of the shoe itself or against the back of the foot of the wearer. rEhe head or roll 13 is caused to lie between the upper of the shoe and the sole thereof to thus effectively retain the protective cover member 10 shaped about the tip of the shoe in a stretched and smooth condition.
From the foregoing, it will be manifest that by reason of the construction of the article and from its manner of application, the same with thorough effectiveness may be made to protect the shoe from being rendered unsightly with cuts or scratches or wings, that this article in its application will not be unattractive inasmuch as each lpair will be made in a color to match certain colored shoes as stated hereinbefore.
'What is claimed as new is 1- l. rrs a new article of mamifacture, an elastic protective cover member, adapted to be placed on the tip of a shoe or the like, an elastic bead forming a part of said cover adapted to engage the shoe between the upper thereof and its sole, an elastic grip member, and elastic connections between the said cover and the grip member, the said connections being crossed, their point of intersection to lie beneath the shank of the shoe and the grip member being adapted to grip at the heel as and for the purpose specified.
2. As an article of manufacture made wholly of rubber, a protective cover member for shoes having a bead, the cover member adapted to cover the tip of a shoe or the like and the bead adapted to engage the shoe or they like in the crease between the upper other of said loops serving to support the and sole thereof, ,a grip member, and a oonshoe or ythe like upon thefoot of the wearer. hector between said cover member and said i In testimony whereof we havey aixedl our 10 t grip member, the connector adapted to prosignatures.
5 vide loops one of which draws the cover spect to thetip of a shoe or the like and the Y PHILIP'BROWN.
