EDWARD PETITORY, OF NEW ORLEANS, LOUISIANA.
IMPROVEMENT IN BARREL-COVERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent N 0. 181,591., dated August 29, 1876 application filed June 6, 1876.
To all-whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, EDWARD PETITORY, a resident of the city of New Orleans, and State of Louisiana, have invented a Certain new and useful Improvement in Barrel-Covers; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and correct description of the same, reference being bad to the annexed drawing, making a part of this specification.
My invention relates to a folding cover for barrels and other like packages. It is in tended for the use of retail dealers, families, and, in fact, for all persons having occasion to exhibit or remove from barrels the contents thereof.
Its simplicity, economy, and durability will be understood by referring to the accompanying drawing, whereon Figure 1 is a top view, and Fig. 2 a bottom view of the same. Fig. 3 shows how the contents of a barrel, provided with my improved cover, may be got at without removing the latter.
My invention consists in constructing the barrel-cover in three sections, said sections being so hinged together. that when opened they will form a circular cover, the rear section being provided with lugs on its under surface, by means of which the cover is retained in position, as hereinafter described.
On the drawing, A represents the rear piece,
the .width of which is about equal to five- .twelfths of the diameter of the cover. This piece is provided on its lower side with three segmental stops or lugs, a b c, for preventing the cover from sliding off the package; that at the rear, a, being intended to fit over the outer side of the chime, while those nearest the front, b 0, are intended to fit inside of the same. To the straight edge of the piece A is secured, by a couple of hinges, d 6, so as to be opened and thrown backward, a second portion of the cover, the width of which is about equal to seven twenty-fourths of the whole, as shown at B.
