IMPROVEMENT IN ATTACHMENTS FORv LIGHTING LAMPS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 181,398, dated August 22,1876 application tiled August 7, 1876.
To all whom it may 'concern Be it known that I, REINHOLD BIBER, of Brooklyn, in the State of New York, have invented a new and useful Attachment for Lighting Oil or Fluid Lamps, of which the following is a specification:
The nature of my invention consists in the arrangement of a balance lever or bar to the spindle which operates the lamp-wick, so that when the lamp is suspended from the ceiling; said lever or bar can be operated by means of a hooked torch-stick, to move the Wick in a position to be lighted by the torch, or to move the wick downward to extinguish the Haine.
In the accompanying drawing, Figure I representsaJ front view of an oil-lamp embodying my invention. Fig. II isl a top view ofthe same, and Fig. III represents the torch for operatin g the wick and lighting the lamp.
A represents a part of the oil or duid reservoir; B, the lamp-cap containing the wick, and C the glass chimney, all constructed and arranged in the usual manner. D is the spindle projecting through'the side of the lamp-cap, to which the pinion which operates the wick is attached.. Upon the head E of the pinion-spin dle D, or upon the spindle itself, if desired, a strap, G, is fastened. by means of the bolt a,
, having a projecting arm, J, in the end of which the balance lever or bar N is-fastened.
When the lamp is to be lighted the hookw on the torch T is placed upon the end n of balance-leverN, so as to move this end downward, thereby turning the pinion-spindle D to move the wick upward ready to be lighted,
when, by inserting the arm T of the torch into the glass chimney C, the same will be lighted.
