IMPROVEMENT IN BARREL-STANDS Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 181.366, dated August 22, 1876; application filed March 6, 1876.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, DAVID SCOTT, of O1- ney, in the county of Richland and State of Illinois, have invented a new and Improved Barrel-Stand, of which the following is a specification: g

In the accompanying drawing, Figure 1 represents a top view; and Fig. 2, a vertical longitudinal section of my improved movable barrel-stand, taken on line 0 c, Fig. 1.

My invention relates to an improved barrelstand, which is readily moved from place to place, admits the tilting of the barrel, and furnishes a covered storage-space for the measures and funnels used for each barrel, so that they are protected against flies or dust, and not exposed to the danger of getting mixed and used for different purposes.

The invention consists of a barrel-stand placed on wheels, and provided with side han dles, that carry a box for the measures, with covering-tray. The barrel is tilted or lowered by a vertically-sliding rack with treadle-connection and releasing catch-piece.

In the drawing, A representsa barrel-stand, of the customary size and construction, placed on wood or metal wheels, for being readily moved from place to place. The barrel is placed, by block and tackle or otherwise, on the stand after, being tapped. Horizontal side braces or handles B are extended forward for supporting a box, 0, that rests by outer side shoulders or strips a thereon, for holding a full set of measures and funnels, to secure the use of a certain set for each barrel, and avoid the danger of getting the difl'erent sirups, oils, &c., mixed and streaked by using the same measure. The front box 0 is covered by a tray, D, that excludes dust and flies from'the interior, and receives the drippings from the faucet, so as to prevent the soiling of the floor. Both tray and box are readily removed for being cleaned.

When the liquid in the barrel is nearly drawn out, the barrel is tilted for drawing out the rest by a vertically-sliding rack-piece, E, that is guided in suitable manner at the rear of the stand, and operated by a treadle, E,

from the front part of the stand.

A spring catch-rod, F, passes from the front of the stand to the rear-of the same, through the guide part, to lock the rack-piece at whatever height desired, and admit the lowering of the barrel to its original position by withdrawing the catch. The barrelstand is strong and durable, admits the ready drawing off of the liquids without stooping, and furnishes a convenient storage-place for the ready use of the special set of measures and funnels.

Having thus described myinvention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- 1. The combination of a barrel stand having supporting braces or handles with afront box and covering top tray, for storing a set of measures and funnels for each barrel, substantially as set forth.

2. The combination of a barrel stand with a treadle operated rack piece and a sliding spring-catch, operated from the front of the stand to tilt and lower barrel, as required, substantially as specified.
