FAUNT L. SENOUR, or PITTSBURG, PENNSYLVANIA.
IMPROVEMENT IN REFLECTORS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 181,287, dated August 22, 1876; application filed July 25, 1876.
To all whom at may concern:
Be itknown that I, FAUNT L. SENoUR, of Pittsburg, in the county of Allegheny and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Reflectors, of which the following is a specification:
The nature of my invention consists in the construction and arrangement of a reflector, as will be hereinafter more fully set forth.
In order to enable others skilled in the art to which my invention appertains to make and use the same, I will now proceed to describe its construction and operation, referring to the annexed drawing, which forms a part of this specification, and in which Figure l is a section taken on the line as a; of Fig. 2. Fig. 2 isa bottom view.
A represents the circular pipe, from which the burners B B project at suitable intervals. 0 is the central pipe in the circleA with stopcocks E E, and D is the vertical pipe pendent from the ceiling. 0n the pipe D is secured a collar, G, by means of a set-screw, H, and from this collar depends a skeleton-frame, I, in which the two reflectors J and L are fastened. The frame with the reflectors can be adjusted and held at any point on the pipe D by means of-the set-screw H, or it can easily be removed from this fixture and placed on another, if desired. The center reflector J is somewhat in the form of a hell, or cone-shaped, and is preferably made of a single piece of glass, and. double-coated on the outside surface, first with silver, and second with any suitable coating to protect the silver. This reflector may be corrugated, or constructed of separate pieces of glass, and it is intended expressly to throw the light downward and chiefly under the reflector.
The outside reflector L surrounds the center reflector J at a distance from it of about three inches, more or less, as may be required, and it stands at right angles to the base of the center reflector, or at any other angle above a right angle. The reflector L is'intended to spread the light to a much greater extentor distance than can be done by the center reflector.
The open space between the two reflectors is designed for the escape of the smoke andheat of the burners, and also to give light above the burners.
Having thus fully described my invention,
what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is'
1. The combination of the center conical or bell-shaped reflector J and the exterior reflector L, arranged at or near right angles with the base of the inner reflector, and a suitable distance from the same, substantially as and for the purposes herein set forth.
2. The adjustable collar G with skeleton frame I, containing the reflectors J and L, and suspended on the gas-fixture by a set-screw, H, substantially as herein set forth.
