UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
AUGUST H. W. MIGHAELIS, OF MONROE, MICHIGAN.
IMPROVEMENT IN HAMES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 181,092., dated August 15,1876; application filed July 1, 1876.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, AUGUST H. W. MI- GHAELIS, of Monroe, in the county of Monroe and State of Michigan, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Hames, of which the following is aspecitication:
The figure is a front view of apair of hames to which my improvements have been applied.
The object of this invention is to furnish hames so constructed that the attachment of the breast-strap rings will not weaken the hames; that the detachment of the breaststrap rings will not injure the hames, and which will enable the upper hame-strap to be adjusted to the collar without being unbuckled.
The invention consists in the breast-strap rings attached to the hame-tug clips, and in the fastenings provided with the guards and the pins and the loops, in combination with the perforated upper part of the hames, for connecting the hame-strap adjustably with said hames, as hereinafter fully described.
A are the hames. B are the staples for the hame-tug clips, and which are secured to the hames A in the usual way. O are the hametug clips, which are passed through the staples B, and are secured to the hame-tugs D in the usual way. E are the breast-strap rings or plates, which haveeyes or holes formed in their upper ends to receive the bends of the olips O, and have openings in their lower parts to receive the breast-straps, and are bent to bring them into proper position upon the hames to receive the breast-straps.
This construction enables the rings or plates E to be readily detached without injuringthe hames, and to be attached without weakening the said hames.
Upon the outer side of the upper part of the hames A are placed plates F, the upper ends of which are bent outward and downward to form guards f to receive the loops G, which are passed over the ends of the hames A, and into the inner ends of which is buckled the upper hame-strap H. The lower ends of the plates or fastenings F are bent outward and -upward to form guards f to prevent the loops G from slipping down off the plates or fastenings F. Upon the inner side of the upper part of the fastcnings F are Formed pins f which enter holes in the outer sides of the hames A, and thus keep the said fastenings in place. Several holes are formed in the hames A to receive the pins f, to enable the fastenings F to be adjusted according to the size of the collar.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- 1. The combination, with the hames A, of the staples B, tug-clips O, and breast-rings E, all arranged as shown, and for the purpose described.
2. The fastenings F, provided with the guards f f and the pins f and the loops G, in combination with the perforated upper part of the hames A, for connecting the hamestrap H adj ustably with said hames, substantially as herein shown and described.
AUGUST H. W. MIOHAELIS.
