The main object of this invention is to provide an improved pocket case or container iior cigarettes, cigars, matches and the like which is very simple and economical in structure and at the same time convenient to manipulate to open the cover and proj ect the contents i'or convenient grasping, or to collapse the contents within the receptacle and close the cover.
A further object is to provide a structure having these advantages in which there are no springs.
Objects pertaining to details and economies of my invention will deiinitely appear' from the description to follow. The invention is defined in the claims.
A structure embodying the features of my invention is clearly illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which:

The structure illustrated in the accompanying drawings is especially adapted as a case or container for cigarettes, and is of such size as to receive a complete package of cigarettes indicated at l.
The container comprises a casing 2 which in the embodiment illustrated is open both at the top and bottom, the lower edges of the walls of the casing having inturned flanges 40 3. The cover 4 is hinged at 5 to the rear wall of the casing. The iront wall of the casing has a vertical slot 6 adjacent its upper end.
Slidable within the casing is the U-shaped holder 7 the bottom portion 8 of which constitutes a bottom for the container. The arms of the holder are slidingly supported by the iront and rear walls of the casing. The rear arm 9 of the holder is connected by the pivot l() to the inwardly and downwardly projecting hinge member 11 secured to the inner side of the cover adjacent the rear end of the cover but in spaced relation to its pivot. Thus arranged, the vertical reciprocating movement of the holder opens and closes the cover. Owing to the fact that the cover swings on the pivot 5 and that the one arm of the holder is pivoted to the cover a 10 in spaced relation to the pivot 5, the holder serves as a spring to hold the cover in its opened and closed positions.
The Jfront arm ot the holder carries a rivetlike linger piece l2 disposed through the slot 6. The head 13 of the iingerpiece is disposed on the outside of the front wall of the casing so that it may be engaged by the thumb of a hand grasping the case, the cover opened and closed and the holder projected to expose the contents for convenient grasping.
My improved case or container is very simple and economical in its parts; at the same time it is strong and durable and convenient to use.
Having thus described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
1. A pocket case or container, comprising an outer casing open at the top, a holder slidable within said casing including a bottom and flat spring front and rear vertical arms,
the bottom of the holder constituting a support for articles contained within the case, and the vertical arms constituting guides, a cover hingedly secured to the rear of said outer casing, an arm hingedly secured to the top of the rear arm of the inner holder, and fiXedly secured within the cover, and means for raising or lowering said holder, thereby opening or closing the cover, the resiliency of the rear spring arm serving to retain the holder in either upon or closed position.
2. A pocket case or container, comprising an outer casing open at the top, a holder rictionally slidable within said casing, and comprising a U-shaped member including a bottom and flat spring front and rear vertical arms, the bottom of the holder constituting the bottom of the container, and the vertical arms comprising rictional guides, a cover hingedly secured to the rear of lsaid outer casing, an arm hngedly secured to the top of the rear arm of the inner holder, and fixedly secured Within the cover, and means including a lug on the front arm extending through the outer casing for raising or loW- ering said holder, thereby opening or closing the cover, the cover When in open position being substantially Vertical andpreventedrom movement in a rearward direction by contact between the upper portion of the rear arm of the holder and; the rear othebox, the resiliency of the rear arm serving to retain the holder in either opener closed position. v
