Patented May 26, 1931 UNITED STATES .VPIATENT- OFFICE v HENRY M. PETERS, OF CHICAGO, ILLINOIS, ASSIGNOR TO FARIES vLIANUIEAG'JIU'RING COMPANY, OF DECATUR, ILLINOIS, A CORPORATION OF ILLINOIS DISPLAY STAND Application filed April 23,
My invention relates to that class of stands particularly designed for use in the display of neckties by haberdashers, though it will be apparent, from the hereinafter contained description, that it is not limited to any special article, but is useful for the display of any article of merchandise upon which it is desirable to direct a flood of light.
Display stands of this class, with which I am familiar, are not designed to afford the purchaser the opportunity to compare all the ties under the proper light while they are on the stand.
My invention has for its object, to provide a stand which is so constructed that the light with which the stand is equipped will direct the light rays over the entire display.
A further object is, to construct the stand so that it will hold double the number of articles, but to provide in that construction that the articles to be displayed will be automatically held in correct position for proper illumination, and that the device will always move to that position Whether or not the salesman so places it. v
A concrete embodiment of my invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawings, which are to be considered as a part of this specification, in which Fig. 1 is .a front elevation of the device, partly in section;
Fig. 2 shows a fragmentary portion of the device in side elevation;
Fig. 3 is a plan view of the device; and
Figs. 4 and 5 are enlarged sectional detail views of the mechanism, showing the means for positioning the stand. Similar reference numerals refer to similar parts throughout the entire description.
As shown in the drawings, my display stand comprises a standard 1, mounted on a suitable base 2. Secured to the standard 1 is an arm 3, which carries an adjustable reflector 18, in which ismounted a socket 20, carrying an electric lamp 21. The reflector 18 is shown adjustable, in order that the light rays may be directed so as to afford proper illumination of the articles (not shown) which are to be displayed,
1930. Serial No. 446,521.
5, which are secured to a frame '6 by screws .7 and 8. These rods 4 and 5 are provided wlth a plurality of dividing posts 9, for convenient separation of the articles to be dis- 1 played. The frame 6 is rotatable upon the standard 1, two collars or bearings, 11 and 12, being provided for this purpose, sockets 15 and 16 serving toensure correct support of the rods 4 and 5 at the outer ends of the the cams 13 to hold the frame 6 in position,
so that the rods 4 and 5 will be adjusted for the proper showing of the articles on display.
The result of this construction is, that if it is desired to show the articles on rod 4, when rod 5 is adjacent the light, the frame 6 is rotated a portion of a revolution, when the cams 13 Will cause it to move automatically through the remainder of the distance, and the pin 19 will then hold it in correct position.
A detent 17 is provided in the standard 1, to prevent the collar or bearing 12 being moved out of engagement with the pin 19.
7 As illustrated, it is a screw, though obviously any convenient form of device may be employed for this purpose.
Having described my invention, What I regard as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States, is:
1. In a display rack including a standard, a frame rotatably mounted on said standard. outwardly extending rods secured to said frame, a pin in said standard and a cam on said frame engaging said pin to automatically move said frame into the predetermined position.
2. Ina display rack including a standard, a frame rotatably mounted on said standard, outwardly extending rods secured to said frame, a pin in said standard and a cam on said frame engaging said pin to automatically move said frame into the predetermined position, and means to limit the longitudinal movement of said frame. Provision for display of the articles is 3. In a display rack including a standard,
made by means'of twohorizontal rods land I I a frame, collars on said frame rotatable on said standard, rods secured to said frame, a pin in said standard, cams on one of said 001- lars Which engage said pin to automatically move said frame into a predetermined position.
4. In a display rack including a standard, a frame, collars on said frame rotatable on said standard, rods secured to said frame, a pin in said standard, cams on one of said collars which engage said pin to automatical- 1y move said frame into a predetermined position, and a detent in said standard to limit the longitudinal movement of said collars on said standard.
5. In a display rack including a standard, a frame, collars on said frame rotatable on said standard, rods detachably secured to said frame, a pin in said standard, cams on one of said collars which engage said pin to automatically move said frame into a predetermined position, and a detent in said standard to limit the longitudinal movement of said collars on said standard.
