I BERNARD SOHAPKER, OF EVANSVILLE, INDIANA.
IMPROVEMENT IN MOSQUITO-BAR CANOPIES, FRAMES, AND SUPPORTS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 180,732, dated August 8, 1876; application filed December 8, 1875.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, BERNARD SOHAPKER, of Evansville, in the county of Vanderburg and State of Indiana, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in a Folding- Top Canopy MosquitoBar Frame; and I do hereby declare that the followingis a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
My invention relates to an improved mosquito-bar canopy frame and support; and it consists in the construction and arrangement of the parts as hereinafter more fully described and claimed.
Figure l is a perspective view of the canopyframe, and its supporting rods and bars, attached to a bedstead. Fig. 2 is a plan view of the canopy-frame, and Fig. 3 is a detail sectional view, showing the attachment of the ribs to the central knob or support, and the manner in which they are supported thereon.
A A are two square rods or bars attached to the back of the head-boards or posts of a bedstead, by means of screw-hooks secured to the bars, and engaging with eyes secured to the head-board or posts. These bars A A are also provided with screw-eyes, which receive notched round rods or posts B, the rods passing through the eyes, and being adjustable therein. By these means, the canopyframe, attached to the upper ends of the rods ,is connected with the bedstead, and its height adjusted with relation thereto.
The canopy-frame consists of six radial ribs, 0, connected with a central disk, E, by a wire hinge passing through the inner ends of the ribs 0, and around the disk E, the inner ends of the ribs being rounded to fit into correspondingly-shaped slots or recesses in the disk. The disk rests upon, and is secured to a knob or button, F, by means of a screwhook, G, passing through the disk into the knob. he outer edge of the knob F projects beyond the edge of the disk E, thereby forming a ledge or shoulder upon which the ribs 0 rest, when they are unfolded or brought to a horizontal position to sustain the netting or canopy covering, as clearly shown in Fig. 3. I is a cord which passes around the ends of the ribs (J, holding them in position when unfolded, and also supporting the canopy between the ends of the ribs.
The canopy-frame is connected with the supporting-frame B by means of pins passing through the ends of two of the ribs 0, and through the upper ends of the rods B. The pins can be withdrawn when the canopy-frame is to be detached from the supporting-rods.
Hooks D, secured to the rods B, engage with holes in the ribs 0, and adjust and brace the canopy-frame in a suitable horizontal position.
If desired, the canopy-frame can be detached from the supporting-rods, and be suspended from a ceiling by means of a cord attached to the screw-hook G. v
The device is simple in its construction and operation, can be readily attached to and detached from the bedstead, and can also be folded compactly within a small compass for storage or transportation.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. The square bars A attached to the bedstead, in the manner described, in combination with the notched adjustable rods B, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
2. The canopy-frame, consisting of the ribs G, disk E, knob F, and screw-hook Gr, constructed and arranged substantially as described, in combination with the supportingrods, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
BERNARD SOHAPKER. Witnesses:
JOHN B. HUDsPETH, HENRY F. MILLER.
