0F LONDON, 0310, ACORPORATION 0F QEIQ STEEL WOOL PAD AND HOLDER Application filed Hay as,
It is the object of my invention to provide a steel wool pad adapted to be used-either singularly or in multiple for the purpose of being retained on a holder of various sizes and shapes It is a further object of my invention to provide a holder and a plurality of such pads in order to apply steel wool to varying conditions and uses.
Referring to the drawings:
Figure 1 is a bottom plan view of a holder having a plurality of pads.
Figure 2 is a section on the line 2-2 thereof.
Figure 3 is a side elevation of a power driven holder and pads.
Figure 4 is a plan View thereoii.
Figure 5 is an end elevation of another form of holderl c Figure 6 is a side elevation thereof.
Figure 7 is a perspective ofthe pad just at the completion of its winding.
Referring to the drawings, a pad is shown. consisting of ribbons of steel wool designoted 1, wound to form a flat bottom 2 and vertical side walls 3 thereof with a cup formed of strands of the wool projecting to form a steel wool fuzzy surface. This steel wool cup is mounted upon a holder consist ing of a support 4, usually a plate of wood, and to which is attached resilient felt-pads 5 by the nail '8, which permits the steel wool cups to be mounted on the holder. The greater the pressure upon the holder the tighter the engagement between the felt pads and the steel wool cups order to protect the fingers r to protect the articles being treated el wool and its holder and to fern. oun'dationfor the edges of the 162% a border or of felt or otn iesilientmaterial, which overhangs the o edges oi? the tops of the steel wool cups. Such border-or band also forms a shock absorbing edge to prevent wooden holder irons injuring the articles which are being treated by the steel wool.
A handle 8 is "provided or the wooden holder itself formed into a handle 9, as in Figures 5 and 6. in Fi ures 3 and a will be seen an arrangement tor a power-driven tendenc 192?. Serial Eon 193 45322 steel wool pad carrier consisting of? the holder is, a plurality of pads distributed at equidistant intervals to the power member having a handle 10 on the motor 11 on whose armature shaft 12 theholder 4: is mounted .By providing the plurality of such pads mounted on a pluralit of retaining resilientholders li am enabled to use the wool for abrasive purposes without disintegrating into fine pieces. Hence, it has been very 6Q; dificult, if not impossible, to utilize the steel wool to its full efiectiveness because of its to disintegrate into fine pieces oi wool. y using, my ad formed from a ribbon so that the cu ecomes substantially as an integral bod 9 an yieldingly expanding the cup and t ereby holding it together under tension by using the resilient support for the cup; and kee ing the cu en aged between the surface being treate arsl the re holder 1 am enabled to use the wool to its full efl ectiveness. The wool being wound in continuous ribbons or strands does not disintegrate as heretoiore when it is used in a bundle or a mas".
It will be understood'that I desire to comprehend within my invention such modifica i tions as within the scope of the claims may be necessary to adapt it to varying conditions and uses-D Having thus iully described my invention what 1 claim is new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
l. in combination, a holder a resilient support projecting therefrom and a steel wool cup consisting of concentrically wound layers or? wool said layers being iormoi l oil plural? individual. intermis on?! strands oi vrooi to form homogene bone which are found into cup form.
combination a holder, a oluralit spaced resilient projections and. a plural a wooi members rnoun.
. Eilf0i= ii@l1s i V combination, a holder having a plu= so rality oif spaced. resilient projections, a o relity of cupshaped steel wool 'niers mounted on said progections, and a resilient guard mounted out e ed e otsaid holder.
an in combination, a ho der having a plu 11 2' 1,807,187 rality of spaoed resilient projections, a ginrality of cup-shaped steel wool mem rs mounted on said pro'ections, and a resilient erg molnteaii on t (f edge of said holdelz tee o sai ar engaging rtionso the tog edges of rid steel wool e gs. In testimon whereof, I afix m6 slgnature.
