Description
May 26, 1931. w. KOLMER ET AL FORE GRIPPER MECHANI SM Filed Jan. 26, 1929 WW V/ Patented May 26, 1931 PATENT orrrca CORPORATION 01'' GERMANY T MA SCHINENFA BRIK 'AUGSBURG-NURNBERG A. G., OF AUGSBURG, GER-MANY, A
- FORE GRIPPER MECHANISM Application filed January 26, 1929, Serial No. 335,176,.and in' Ger many February 3, 1928.
The object of the invention is a feeding device' for two-revolution printing presses comprising-oscillating fore-grippers on a spindle journalled outside the impression 1 cylinder and parallel to it, for seizing the sheet fed and conveying it to the grippers in the impression cylinder.
In the new mechanismthe fore-gripper motion is controlled by means of a controlling roller which during the initiatory phase of the oscillating motion contacts with a cam which rotates twice at each impression and during the completing phase of the motion with a cam which rotates only once at each impression. Conformable to the-purpose the two-revolution cam in the new mechanism is fast on the cylinder shaft, and the one-revolution cam loose on this same shaft.
The drawing shows a side view of a preferred form of the new mechanism.
To the shaft of the impression cylinder a cam a is fastened; it consequently rotate twice at each impression.
A second cam b is rotatably disposed on a pivot projecting from cam a. Gear 0, is fastened to the main cam a and in mesh with gear (Z the circumference of wh1ch 1s double that of gear 0. Gear d is seated on the onerevolution shaft 6 and is fastened to gear f.
Gear 7 is in mesh with gear 9, the circumference of which is equal to that of gear f, and is fastened to cam b; cam Z) consequently revolves once at each impression. Lever i which oscillates about a pivot is projecting from the side frame of the machine carries intermediate its ends a roller h the motion of which is controlled by the two-revolution cam a during one phase of the oscillating movement of the grippers, that is,,while the i grippers seize the sheet on the feeding board of one-revolution cam b.
Lever i, which controlling roller 72. causes to oscillate, is at point Z pivotally, connected with rod m the other end of which is linked to a lever 0 by means of a pivot n. This lever 0 rocks about fore-gripper spindle p to which it is fastened. A spring 0 pressing at point q against the other end-of lever 0 forces roller it against the circumference of cams a and b. The other end of spring 1'- is fastened to the side frame of the machine.
Fastened to fore-gripperspindlc p are arms 10 in the ends of which bar u is journalled. Bar u carries the fore-grippers 8. They are opened and shut by means of an oscillating cam acting upon a, roller crank a" which is fastened to baru. Cam 6 is caused to oscillate by means of cam c which is fastened to gears d and f and rotates once at every impression on pivot 6 provided in the side frame of the machine, acting on roller lever w and through this-on lever w. When the sheet to be fed has slipped-into proper position and the fore grippers have arrived to seize it, the grippers s are opened, because,
at this moment cam t is situated at y de-' pressing the fore-gripper roller against'the action of spring a. Now cam 2? swings from position to position 1 Spring 2 causes the grippers to close and so grip the sheet; at this moment the conveying motion of the fore-grippers starts. Cam t has meanwhile arrived at position 1 and operated the trans ference of the sheet to the cylinder grippers. The fore-grippers close thereupon and move into the swung out position and cam't swings back to position y.
What we claim is: y p y 1.
