Description
May 26, 19 R. E. ALEXANDER SKIRT HOLDER Filed Sept. 20. 1929 IN VEN TOR. FOBEHTE/IL EXAM/0E1? i B yam; A
TTORNEYS.
Patented May 2 1931 seeeei ROBERT E. ALEXANDER, or sraIN sFIE p,'r-EnnsYLvAnm SKIRT HOLDER Application filed September 20, 1929. Serial No. 394,004.
This invention appertains to apparel and more particularly to a novel device for holding a skirt or similar garment around thelegs of the wearer. r
enced by female persons especially while driving or riding in a motor vehicle by their dresses creeping or blowing up over the knees.
10 It is therefore one of the primary objects of my invention to providea device which will afford a maximum amount of comfort to the wearer and which will elfectivelyhold the skirt garment in proper position around the wearers limbs at all times.
Another salient object of my invention is the provision of a resilient clip embodying a pair of resilient hook members integrally and resiliently connected together, the hook members being adapted to grip the legs and the skirt for holding the skirt down and in correct position. f
A further'object of my invention is to provide a unitary device for clamping the skirt or similar garment in proper position around the knees which will also act in the nature of a rest for the legs incident to a long drive.
A still further object of my inventionis to provide a skirt clamp of the above character, which will be durable and efiicient in use, one that "will be simple and easy to manufacture, and one which can be placed upon the market at a reasonable cost. 7
5 With these and other objects in view, the invention consists in the novel construction, arrangement and formation ofparts, as will be hereinafter more specifically described, claimed, and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which drawings Figure 1 is a perspective View of my 1mproved device showing the same in use.
Figure 2 is a perspective vlew'of my 1mproved device per se, and
Figure 3 is a detail view illustrating a slightly modified formof my invention.
Referring to the, drawings in, detail, wherein similar reference characters 1 designate corresponding parts throughout the 5 several views, the letter A generally indi- Considerable annoyance is often experi cates my improved skirt holder which com prises a single strip of resilient material bent into the desired. form as will be. described. The device can be made-from spring steel, celluloid or the likerandsuit ably treated so as to enhance the appearance thereof. As shown the device A includes a pair of end resilient clips or clamps 5 and 6 extending in facing relation to one another and having their upper ends integrally connected together by a downwardly and inwardly bowed connected bight portion 7. Asstated the clips or clamps 5 and 6 are resilientjand are of a substantially annular form but having their lower inner ends free i as indicated by the reference character 8 and terminating adjacent to but in spaced relation to the depending arcuate connecting bight portion ,7.
In use of my improved device the skirt is drawn down toward the knees, as shown in Figure 1, of. the drawin s after which the endj'clips 5 and 6 are p aced over the gar ment with the clips extending around and under the legs and over the skirt. The connecting bight portion. 7 extends between the legs and tends to hold the skirt at that portion against riding movement. Due to' the resilient connection'between the clips 5 and 6, not only will the skirt be efficiently held but slight flexing movement between the legs is permitted. The clips 5 and 6 will effectively gripand hold the garment in a neat position about the legs with a maxi mum amount of comfort to the wearer. Further in view of the construction of the skirt clamp, the same functions as a rest for the legs and adds comfort to the wearer of the garment incidentrto a long automobile v trip.
If preferred, as shown in Figure 3 of the drawings, the bight portion can be made relatively deep as indicated by the reference character 9 in Figure 3 so as to extend further down between the legs. In this modified form the bight portion 9 will form a further means for holding the skirt in position. 7
Changes in details may be made without.
departing from the spirit or the scope of this invention, but
What I claim as new is:
1. As a new article of manufacture a skirt 5 holder comprising a pair of resilient leg encircling clamps, the terminals of said clamps extending inwardly and upwardly with respect to each other for extending well under the leg of the user when applied.
2. As a new article 0]": manufacture a skirt holder formed from a single strip of resilient material comprising a pair of substantially circular leg clamps resilient throughout their lengths, the terminals bemg arranged to extend toward each other and remaining normally in close proximity to each other whereby the clamps will extend well under the legs of a user for preventing the accidental displacement of the clamps by the spreading of the legs.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signaw ture.
ROBERT E. ALEXANDER.
