TIE HANDLE Filed Jan. 51, 1950 Inventor CZ/W/ v .2 0/0 A itorngy Patented May 19, I 1931 UNITED TATES CALVIN P. ORR, OF-LAONA, wrsoonsmv TIE HANDLE Application filed January 31, 1930. Serial no. 424, eo.-
One of the important objects of the prescut invention is to provide a tie handle of this character by means of which the strands of wire may be easily inserted and drawn therethrough for attaching the handle in a desired position to the wire to facilitate the wrapping and tying action. I
A still further object is to provide an article of this character of a simple and practical construction, which is efiicient and reliable in erformance, relatively inexpensive 530 to manu acture and otherwise well adapted to the purpose for which. the same is intended.
Other objects and advantages reside in the special construction combination and arrangement of the various elements forming the invention as more fully hereinafter described and claimed, reference being had to the accompanying drawings forming part hereof wherein like numerals refer, to like parts throughout, and in which:
Figurel is a side elevational view, Figure 2 is a longitudinal sectional view therethrough.
7 Referring to the drawings in detail for i the purpose of illustration I have disclosed a preferred embodiment of the invention, the numeral 5 designates a handle member of relatively elongated construction and of a rounded formation. The handle is hollow and is provided at its opposite ends with openings 6 through which a strand of wire 7 may be inserted. I
A plug 8 is fitted in one of the walls of the handle with its inner end milled, as shown at 9 and protruding within the hollow interior portion of the handle for engaging one side of the wire. 7 I
p A trigger 10 is pivotally mounted upon a pin l-l'extending transversely of an opening 12 formed in the wall of the handle opposite from the plug 8, said trigger having its inner end formed into a cam 13 and likewise milled for cooperating with the milled end 9 of the the wire therebetween. c
The outer end of the trigger is formed into an arcuate finger grip 14. It will be apparent'from'the foregoing that upon insertion of a strand ofwire through the handle and gripping the same by the hand of the user that the finger may engage the trigger 10 and upon the application of pressure thereto the wire will be tightly gripped between the milled surfacesof the plug 8 and the inner end of the trigger.
The wire may then be drawn about a package or other objectfor the purpose of tightly tying the ends of the wire.
It is obvious that my invention is susceptible to various changes and modifications in construction without departing from the spirit of the invention or thescope of the appended claim, and I accordingly claim all such forms of the device to which I am entitled. Having thus described my invention, What I claim as new is:
A device for facilitating the tying of wire about bundles consisting of an elongated holilow hand grip having a longitudinal pasplug to tightly gri-p' sageway therethrough for receiving the wire to be grasped, the handle at one side thereof and adjacent to one end being provided with a' longitudinally extending slot, a serrated gripping plug'arranged in the interior of the handle on the opposite side thereof from said slot, and an eccentric gripping plate eccentrically pivoted within theslot and extending into the handle toward the plug and having its inner edge provided with outwardly disposed gripping teeth for coaction with said plug, and said plate having its outer end projected laterally from the handle through the slot and arcuately formed to provide a finger grip for increas ing the gripping action of the inner end of the plate when the finger grip and the handle are simultaneously urged in a predetermined direction with respect to the w1re.
In testimony whereof I afiix my signature.
I CALVIN P. ORR.
