A pin of this type, as heretofore provided, has a pair of opposed clamping legs one of which is adapted to be disposed Within the bore of the tubular hair curler so that the other leg will overlie and hold the wrapping of hair on the curler. Such a pin is subject to dislodgment or slipping objectionably relative to the curler, inasmuch as only the engagement of the legs with the hair and the curler respectively, is relied upon to hold the pins in place. Moreovervdifiiculty is sometimes experienced in mounting such a pin in proper position on the curler with the quickness and case that is desired.

It is an object of the present invention to provide an improved pin of the character described which eliminates the objections above noted and provides for a quick and easy application of the pin to the curler in a manner assuring that the pin will remain in'the proper position. i

It is another object of this invention to provide a pin of the character described having novel means between and apart from the legs thereof for-gripping the curler to securely hold the pin in place.

A further object is to provide a pin such as described wherein the juncture portion of the legs is formed with a slot or notch to define opposed portions for gripping the inner and outer surfaces of the tubularcurler at one end of the curler, to assure that the pin will remain in place.

Another object is the provision of a curler such as described, in which one of the legs thereof adjacent its free end, is formed to grip the inner surface of the curler between the curler ends, so that in cooperation with means at the juncture of the legs for gripping an end of the curler, the pin will be reliably held against dislodgment and objectionable slipping.

An additional object is to provide a pin of the'character described wherein one leg is shorter than the other and of less length than the tubular curler. This facilitates application of the pin to the curler also makes it possible for a portion of the shorter leg spaced from the juncture of the legs, to be forcibly engaged with the interior surface of the tubular curler between the ends of the latter, While means at the juncture portion grips the inner and outer surfaces of the curler at one end of the curler.

'Another object of this invention is to provide a pin such as described wherein each of the opposed legs is curved so as to be outwardly bowed whereby the legs will converge toward the free ends thereof and the resultant space between the legs will provide for an easy application of the pin and accommodate the desired amount of hair wound on the curler.

It is another object to provide a pin such as described wherein the juncture portion of the legs serves as a handle or gripping portion and makes it possible to provide novel means for gripping an end of the tubular curler.

This invention possesses many other advantages and has other objects which may be made more easily apparent from a consideration of the'embodiment of the invention shown in the drawing accompanying and forming part of the present specification. This form will now be described in detail, illustrating the general principles of the invention; but it is to be understood that this detailed description is not to be taken in a limiting sense, since the scope of the invention is best defined by the appended claims.

Fig. 1 is a perspective view of a pin embodying the present invention;

Fig. 2 is a side elevation of the pin and a tubular hair curler with the latter having a wrapping of hair thereon, showing how. the pin is applied to the curler;

Fig. 3 is a side elevation of the pin as it would ap pear when properly positioned in accordance with this invention, on a tubular hair curler having a wrapping of hair thereon, the curler being shown in longitudinal section; and

Fig. 4 is a cross-sectional view taken on the line 4-4 of Fig. 3.

Referring more specifically to the accompanying drawing, it will be seen that a curler pin embodying the present invention generally includes a pair of opposed clamping legs 1 and 2, each joined to the other at one end by means of a juncture portion 3. The pin may be made of any suitable material and readilylends itself to being made in one piece of plastic material. Preferably the material used in such that the legs 1 and 2 will be somewhat resilient to provide a clamping action than the other leg. With this arrangement, the shorter leg 1 may be positioned within the tubular curler4 with a portion thereof, for example the end portion 6, arranged to resiliently press against the inner surface of the curler between the ends of the latter, while, the longer leg 2 embraces the wrapping 5 of hair to hold the hair in place. These relative lengths also facilitate the application of the pin to the curler as will be apparent with reference to Fig. 2. i

In accordance with this invention, means areprovided to grip the curler 4 so that the, clamping or gripping action of the legs 1 and 2 alone, need be depended upon to hold the pin in place. Accordingly the pin is formed so that means are provided between and apart from the legs, to grip the inner and outer surfaces of the curler at one end of the curler. As here shown, this means is embodied in the juncture portion 3 of the pin in the I spacing of the legs at the juncture portion 3. In other words, the width of the slot 7 is less than the space between the legs 1 and 2 at the joint thereof with the portion 3. This construction forms shoulders on opposite sides of the mouth of the slot 7, the shoulders extending from the slot mouth to the points where the legs join the portion 3. The shoulder between the longer leg 2 and the mouth of the slot 7 as shown in Fig. 3, acts as a stop to prevent hair from getting into the slot or from sliding 01f the end of the curler. The two shoulders act as guides in causing an edge of the curler to be engaged in the slot 7. The width of the slot or notch 7 is somewhat less than the thickness of the wall of the tubular curler 4 so-that when the pin is positioned on'the curler, the edge of the curler at the end of the. curler. opposed to the slot 7, may be forced or wedged into the slot, whereby the gripping surfaces 8 will frictionally' grip the inner and outer surfaces of the curler; This will providefor a reliable'holding of the P111. 01111 the curler, as the holdingactionof the legs L andi2. especia llythe-leg.1 at the end portion 6, together with thelholding action of the surfaces 8, assures that the pin will; remain in proper position.
