My invention relates to means for framing wall openings and particularly to a novel metal buck provided with means for holding a wood jamb.

One object of my invention is to provide an all metal frame construction having means for attaching a wood amb without the use of wood block inserts. The construction contemplates the use of frame members of generally channel shape arranged to embrace the edge of a masonry wall together with a plurality of L -shaped clips welded to the outer face of the wall and arranged to embrace the wood jamb. Suitable provision is made for an open space beneath the jamb to permit the use of hinge screws that. are longer than the thickness of the jamb.

The door frame comprises side frame members A and a head frame member B. The frame elements are of generally channel shape in cross section having a web 10, side flange 11 and a lateral flange 12 constituting a plaster terminal. .As a means for locating and holding the frame relative to a masonry wall, I weld plates 13 to the outer face of the flange 11 the plates having struck out plaster anchor loops 14 therein.

At intervals in the length of the frame members, as best shown in Fig. 1, I provide generally U-shaped clips or straps, the base portions 15 of which are welded to the inside face of the web 10, while the arms 16 of the clips project outwardly, the portions 17 extending beyond the plane of the face of the channel. A jog 18 in each of the arms provides a seat for a wood jamb, 19, 5O nails 20 projecting through the portions 17 intothe jamb. A molding strip 21 overlies the projecting portions of'the clips to present a finished appearance. Itwill be noted that a space 22 is provided beneath the jamb in order that the hinge screws 23 may pass through the amb Without interference with ametal part. Y

Atthe corner, as shown in Fig. 2 the side plates 13 are interrupted and a gusset plate of L-shape is utilized, one leg 24 of which is welded to the side face ofthe flange 11, while the other leg 25 has a lateral flange 26 that underlies therebent marginal'edge 27 of the plaster terminal and having vertical sliding engagement therewith. A short channel 28 extends between the legs 25 of the gusset'plates, the flanges 29 of the chan-. nel. being welded to said plates; :At the upper end a short wood block 30 is mounted within the channel buck and held in place by means of a U-shaped strip31, the bent ends 32 of which are welded to the inside faces of the flanges 11-. As a means for holding the wood blocks in place, I may provide the tongues in the web 31 of the U-shaped strip, thesetongues being driven or jammed into the wood afterthe block has been placed.

Obviously modifications may be made in the construction shown, and I do not-wish tobe limited except'as indicated in the appended claims.

I claim 2 1. In combination, a frame for Wall openings comprising side and head members shaped to cooperate with the edges of the wall at the opening, a pluralityof spaced generally 'U-shaped clips secured to the outer faces of the frame members, and a wood jamb held in said clips.

2. In combination, a frame for wall openings comprising side and head members of channel shape in cross section, clips having portions seated in the channels andv portions projecting outside the face of the channels,

and a wood jamb held in place by said projecting portions.

3. In combination a frame for wall openings comprising side and head members of generally channel shape in cross section with the channel positioned so that the opening is away from the edge of the wall, means for holding the frame against lateral movement relative to a masonry wall, metal clips mounted in the channels and having portions projecting beyond the plane of the face of the channels, and a wood jamb held by said clips.

In combination a frame for wall openings comprising side and head members of generally channel shape in cross section with the channel positioned so that the opening is away from the edge of the wall, means for holding the frame against lateral movement relative to a masonry wall, metal clips secured to the channels and having portions projecting beyond the face thereof, said clips having means providing a seat in substantially the plane of the face of the channel, and a wood jamb held in said clips.

In combination a frame for wall openr ings comprising side and head members of generally channel shape in cross section with the channel positioned so that the opening is away from the edge of the wall, means for holding the frame against lateral movement relative to a masonry wall, metal clips secured tothe channels and having portions projecting beyond the face thereof, said clips having means providing a seat in substantially the plane of the face of the channel, and a wood jamb held in said clips, the position of said seats being such that an open space is provided beneath the wood j and).

In a frame for wall openings, the combination of head and side frame members, means providing a sliding interlocking connection between the side and head frame members at their corners, a wood block held in one of said members, and a nail adapted to be driven longitudinally into said block and having a portion overlying a part of'the other frame member.

7. In means for framing wall openings, side and head frame members, L-shaped plates one leg of which is secured to one frame member and the other leg of which has sliding interlocking connection with the other frame member, means connecting the free legs of said L-shaped plates, a wood block mounted at the end of one frame memher, and a nail adapted to be driven into said wood block and having a portion overlying ISAAC A.
