Application filed June 3,
My inventionv relates to door and 'amb construction; and the main object o' the invention is to provide such a construction which includes a split jamb, and stop construction with the casing combined, built in the manner of a cabinet, finished ready for installation at the building, and with very little labor. Anot r object is to provide means for the fastening of a combination jamb and stop and easing combined in the wall opening with only the tightening of some screws, and with no need of nailing, and a further object is the construction of a door with the raised double inner frame, of the raised moulding type, mitered at the corners.
Other objects and advantages are attained with my invention, as will become apparent from the following description taken nc-onnection with the accompanying drawmgs, forming part of this specification, and in which,
Fig. 1 is an elevatioual view of a door jamb construction embodying my invention;
Fig. 2 is an enlarged horizontal settional view on line 2-2 of Fig. 1;
Fig. 3 is a horizontal sectional view on line 3-3 of Fig. 5 also an enlarged detail of Fig. 2 showing the jamb placed in the wall opening;
Fig. 4 is a detail plan view showing the screw partly inserted in the expanding screw nut;
Fig. 5 is an elevational view of the fastening mechanism for a jamb placeable in the wall of a building;
Fig. 6 is an end view of the parts shown in Fig. -5;
Fig. 7 is a top view of the flanged plate shown in Fig. 5;
Fig. 8 is an elevational view of the plate 1 shown in Fig. 7; and
Fig. 9 is a vertical cross sectional view on line 9-9 of Fig. 5..
In the drawings I have illustrated the preferred form of my invention whi'ch comprises a split jamb and easing construction including an inner member 10 which forms an inner jamb part 10' and an inner casing portion 10 integral therewith: and an outer member 11 which forms an outer jamb part 11, providing the stop. and an .outer casing portion 11 integral therewith; said members 10 and 11 being combined in the wall 12 of a building, to form the frame. This construction is to be pro- 1927. Serial No. 198,865.
vided in a manner and size to suit the various widths of walls in a building.
The door 13 is constructed with raised moulding frame members 14 which may be provided with a removable moulding member 15 for inserting the panel 16, which may be constructed of material to suit requirements. Portal head casing 17 is constructed of panel design as indicated.
I provide fastening mechanism including plate means 18, for the installation of a amb and casing combined in the wall of a building, which is fastened to the inside face of member 11 by screws 19 and 20 and 21, and to buck frame 22 with screws 23. Said mechanism is provided with a metal casing 24 as indicated in Fig. 9. r i
A flanged plate 25 is fastened to the other member 10 by screws 26-27, and is'tightened by a screw 28, which draws the flanged plate member 25 into casing 24, due to the tapermg of this screw 28.
Said tapered screw is also artly threaded, leading into a block 29 provi ed on casing 24, and into an expandible nut 30 with a sharp end 30 and which is split at 31 to anchor tight into buck frame 22 for a perfect tight fit. Plate member 18 may also be constructed without any offset to suit the different requirements.
A flange member 32 is adj ustably mounted on plate 18, by means of screws 20 passing through slots 34 in member 18. 33 indicates the tenon and mortise connection of the door members. It is apparent from the above disclosure that I have provided a construction including the jamb and casing and stop combined in one body instead of separate elements as when made in the usualway.
I have also provided fastening means for the installation of the above described mechanism in a building wall without any nailing whatever; but with very simple methods in order to secure a clean finished construction without punching of nail holes or hammer marks, and will keep together the parts of split ambs of various types, after being constructed at the mill, and will prevent them from coming apart. I further provide a door construction of a double inner frame with raised panel moulding members of modern designs and construction.
Although I have shown my invention in a certain form in this appllcation, various changes and modifications in the constructions ma be resorted to and are intended to be inclu ed herein as far as warranted by the existing rior art.
What claim as m to secure by Letters invention and desire atent 1s:
2. A construction of the type described comprising fastening mechanism for mountmg a fram including divided jamb means with stop and easing means thereon, said mechanism including separable plate means,
and an expandible screw means extendingthrough said plate means and said jamb means into the wall and expanding within the wall, said screw means being readily accessible for conveniently removing it and said jamb means.
3. A construction of the type described comprising fastening mechanism for mounting a frame with separable jamb arts, said mechanism including a plate having a casing thereon and concealed elements to fasten the same on one of said jamb parts, another plate slidable into said casing and having concealed elements to fasten it on the other jamb part, a flanged nut expandible in the wall, and a tapered screw extending through said plates for drawing them and the jamb parts together and to retain them by expanding said nut in the wall.
4. 'A construction comprising fastening mechanism for mounting a frame with separable jamb parts, said mechanism including a plate with a casing fastened on one jamb part, flange means adjustably mounted on said plate, a flanged plate fastened on the other jamb part and slidable in said casing, and'screw means for fastening said plates 1, A construction of the type described including a plate with a casing fastened to one of said parts .-aplate fastened to the other part and being movable into said casing on the first plate, said plates being provided with end flanges one of which is adjustable to produce an exact fit between said casing means 011 said parts, and concealed elements to fasten said plates on said jamb parts and fasten said flanges on said casing means.
6. A constructlon providing the usual door stop, amb, and easing means, combined 111 two longitudinally divided parts, one part including an integral stop and casing portion, and the other part including an inte--. gral amb and casmg portion, means for fastening said parts together andincluding a pair of plates, one of whichis fastened to each 'part, means on one plate for embracing the other plate, anda tapered screw member for drawing said plates and attached parts together and to retain them in position.
7. -A construction providing the usual door stop, jainb, and casing means, combined in separable parts one of which includes an integral stop and easing portion, and the other includes an integral jamb and easing
