IMPROVEMENT lN PORTABLE FENCES.

Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 180,321, dated July 25, 1876; appIication filed January 27, 1876.

To all whom it may concern:

-Be it known that I, E. F. BUNN, of Walkerville, Page county, lowa, have invented a new and valuable Improvement in Portable Fences; and do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the construction and operation of the same, reference being had to the annexed drawings, making a part of this specification, and to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon.

Figure 1 represents a front elevation of the devices embodying my invention. Fig. 2 represents a top view thereof.

My invention relates to portable fences; and it consists in a series of detachable sections and a series of connecting-braces, the parts being so constructed that the sections may form a. right line, or may stand at right angles or obliquely to one another. It also consists of a pointed detachable stake, adapted to be driven into the ground at the point of junction of two fence-sections, and provided with an arm for assisting in sustaining the same.

In the accompanying drawings, A A represent the connecting-slats or braces, provided at their ends with crossarms or buttons B B. Connecting locking-braces A A are detached from the fence-sections by turning braces A, provided with end pieces B 13, until they lie horizontally, when'they can readily be withdrawn. When in position for use, braces or To facilitate their entrance between the slats, the ends of connectin g-bracesA A are beveled. In straight, or nearly straight,

fencing, as shown in Fig. 1, two locking-braces, A A B B, are ordinarily used for connecting each pair of f6llCeSeCi3lOllS. G O are battens, forming the ends of the fence-sections, and correspondingly beveled on their contiguous sides, as are also the ends of panels E E.

To set the sections at right angles, place the beveled edges, above described, together, with the battens O 0 all on the inside of the fence. The sections may also be set at any oblique angle; but the joint will not be so perfect. They may also be separated more or less, as shown in Fig. 2.

Arm or hook F is made to project horizontally from stake D, as shown in Fig. 2, and said stake is arranged in angular fencing on the outside ofthe angle, as shown in the lefthand part of said figure. It will then look the sections of the fence firmly together, and brace them so efi'eetuallythat any efi'ort to overthrow or violently separate them will only make the connection closer.
