Description
April 21, 1931. w. STODDARD 3 MEASURING AND DISPENSING DEVICE Filed July 9, 1929 2 1/ 1 ,IIIII/ Fatented Apr. 21, 1931 UNITED STATES WILLIAIVLSTODDARD, OF TRENTON, NEW JERSEY A MEASURING- AND DISPENSING DEVICE Application filed July 9, 1929. Serial 110,376,959.
This invention relates to measuring and dispensing devices especially designedfor use in restaurants and like eating places for dispensing sugar in measured quantities, so that the user may know exactly how much sugar he is using.
Another object of the invention is the provision of a device of the above-character which is simple and durable in construction, may be roughly handled without danger of damage,
and by means of which sugar and other commodities of a like character may be dispensed in measured quantities.
With the above and other objects in view,
the invention further includes the following novel features and details of construction, to be hereinafter more fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings and pointed out in the appended claim.
29 In the drawings Figure 1 is an elevation of the invention.
Figure 2 is a sectional view taken substantially on the line 2-2 of Figure 1.
Figure 3 is an elevation at right angles to V Figure 1 with a part of the device shown in section, the section being taken substantially on the line 3-3 of Figure 4.
Figure 4 is a sectional view on the line 4-4 of Figure 2.
Referring to the drawings in detail wherein like characters of reference denote corresponding parts, the reference character 10 indicates a container which may be made of any suitable material and of any suitable size and configuration. The container is preferably provided with a removable bottom 11 so that convenient access may be had to the interior of the container for filling the same. In addition, the entire bottom of the container may be removed to facilitate cleaning, so that the container may be conveniently kept in a sanitary condition.
The top wall of the container is relatively thick and extending centrally within this top wall is a recess 12. It will be noted by reference to the drawings that the shape and construction of the container both inside and out is of a character to permit the same to be thoroughly cleaned.
Extending through the top wall of the container is a combined measuring and discharge passage. v As shown in Figure 4 of the drawings it will be seen that this passage is substantially goose necked in shape and its short arm communicates with the recess 12 provided in the container, while the juncture of the short arm 12 and long arm 13 of the passage define a measuring chamber or passage 14. 7
By reference to Figures 2, 3 and 4 of the drawings it will be seen that the container may be tilted or turned upward and inclined so that sugar or other commodity contained will enter the measuring passage or chamber 14 through the short arm 12 and only an amount determined by the size of the chamber will pass from the container. The con tainer may then be manipulated so that the sugar will be discharged through that portion of the passage indicated at 13. The container is preferably proportioned so that an amount equal to the capacity of one teaspoon will be discharged at each operation.
The invention is susceptible of various changes in its form, proportions and minor details of construction and the right is here in reserved to make such changes as properly fall within the scope of the appended claim.
Having described the invention what is claimed is A measuring and dispensing device comprising a container having a relatively thick top wall and acentral recess extending into saidwall and communicating with the interior of the container, said wall also having a horizontally disposed curved passage therein which extends transversely at one side of the recess and defines a measuring passage whose inner end communicates with the recess and whose outer end defines a discharge month.
In testimony whereof I afliX my signature.
WILLIAM STODDARD.
