IMPROVEMENT IN FILLING TEETH.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 179,945, dated July 18, 1876 application filed May 27, 1876.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ROMALDERS NOBLE, of Brunswick, Glynn county, Georgia, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Filling Teeth, of which the following is a specification:
My invention consists of capping a filling of amalgam, or other material which is soft when put in the cavity and hardens readily, by a cap of fine rolled gold, having notched, or dental, or headed pins or other anchorages, which I press into the filling while in a soft state, so as to be secured when the filling hardens, and thus securely hold the cap.
Figure 1 is a side elevationol' a tooth having a filling of amalgam or other material of like character, capped with a plate of gold according to my invention; and Fig. 2 is a sectional elevation.
A is the tooth; B, the filling; G, the cap, and D the pins attachedto the cap.
Filling of this character is preferable to gold, because it canv be put in easier, with much less discomfort to the patient, is less liable to cause inflammation, and the tooth is not liable to fracture as when beating in the gold; but it is either too sot't for durable wear or not suitable in color, which objections are entirely obviated by my plan.
I am aware that it is'not new to use a porcelain plate withstud fastened by cement, after the tooth has been nearly filled with gold; or a screw-anchor with branches turned
