To yall lwhom t may concern.'
Be it known that I, RUTHERFORD sHnR, a citizen of the United States, residing at Adelphi, in the county of Ross andv Stateof Ohio, have invented certain lnew and useful Improvements in Artificial Teeth,
of which the following is a specification. n
This invention has relation to useful improvements in articial teeth and especiallyv A further object of the invention is tol provide in connection with said reinforcing ed to extend, at a suitable angle, from the outer end thereof, inwardly, which portion forms the grinding portion of said tooth.
A still further object of the invention is to provide` specific means for connecting the brace with the tooth so that the latter may be freely utilized and will effectually withstand whatever strains that may thereupon, while in use.
Another object of the invention is to pro-Y vide a tooth of such character and construction that will be especially vadapted for litever, before the latter is secured permanently in position.
With the foregoing and other objects in view, my invention consists of the novel features vof construction, combination and arrangementof parts, .as are described in this specication, 'illustrated' in the accom-i panying drawings forming ak part thereof and particularly pointed-out in the claim hereunto` appended. e
Reference being 'had to the drawings:
- Figure lis a perspective view of the reinforcing means together with' said grinding portion integral therewith, extending at a suitable angle therefrom, as hereinbefore indicated.
Fig. 2 is a vertical sectional-viewof my improved tooth, the reinforcing means and be placed n l' said portion thereof, above-mentioned, being junction with the tooth 1, hereinafter referred to asa tooth facing 1, which may be composed of porcelain or any other material adaptable for the purpose, consists of a bracing plate 2, which is substantially flat, the outer end portionthereof being bent outwardly at ak requiredl angle in conformity with the outer end of said tooth facing 1.
A'` portion of the reinforcing means extendsv at substantially right angles to that portion thereof, specifically indicated, hereinbefore, as a bracing plate 2 and at the outer end thereof, being integral therewith. The said portion, or, as commonly known in dentistry, cusps 3, present a grinding surface which kcoperates with the grinding surface of the oppositely disposed tooth rupon the oppositegaw. means, a portion, integral therewith, adapt- Extending from the outer face of the bracing plate 2, at a suitable acute angle toward its inner end, is a pin 4, integral therewith 'which corresponds to and is received by a bore 5 formed in the tooth facing 1 from the inner face thereof. Said bore extends into the tooth facing 1 at an obtuse tioned bore 5, during the insertion of said pin intothe latter. The bore 6 terminates and expelsfthe excess cement, if any, at the inner end ofthe tooth 1.
Although I have specically described the novel features of construction, combination and arrangement of the several parts of my invention, yet Ido 'not confine myself to same but reserve and may exercise the right v to make such changes therein as do not depart from the spirit of the invention orthe scopeof the appended claim.
What I claim as new, is:
- `A tooth provided with a facing having a -bore extending thereinto at an acute angle toward its inner end, a second bore communcating with the first-mentioned bore at the inner end of each, said second bore extending into said facing from the inner end thereof and forming with the first-mentioned bore an obtuse angle, reinforcing means comprising a backing plate, a pin protruding from the outer face thereof, which pin is normally received by and held in the rst-mentoned bore, a portion of said reinforcing means being bent inwardly at a l0 suitable angle to the backing plate thereof to form the cusps of the tooth.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in the presence 0f two witnesses.
